@Meat Excellent job! Keep winning and doing what you're doing! I can relate because I've always struggled with the weight and started to think that it was impossible to lose and get healthy because of all the times that I've Yo-yo'd, but this time I think it's going to work!

@BTPost I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers for healing and less pain. Have you tried Tai Chi / QiGong before? My friend Teresa was recently diagnosed with Osteoporosis and sent me some YouTube videos. I tried them and the breath work and slow movements are very soothing.

@kckndrgn You story and experience sounds like a success story in the making. I can seriously relate to you. You have gotten amazing results before and you can definitely do it again!

This whole "weightloss and get healthy business" can feel like an uphill battle sometimes. About a year and a half ago, I lost 60 lbs. I was doing everything that I could: running, strength training, yoga, hula hooping, counting my macros religiously, and weighing and measuring myself. It was "working," but then I got obsessed and started overtraining and then people on social media started telling me I had an eating disorder. From there I went the opposite direction and gained the weight back. When things were "working" I started to worry that it would stop working and wasn't sure what I would do because I couldn't spend any more time and energy than I already was.
It sounds like you're back on the right track and I'm cheering you on as I also try to get healthy. I think I have about 50 lbs to lose. No gym for me either. My bf joined the local gym and encouraged me to do the same, but I want to try to get healthy at home without spending money.
I'm also an introvert who is trying to spend a little more time outside.

@Wildbilly I really admire the fact that every time you get faced by a challenge or major life change (like work or unfortunate world events), you use it as an opportunity to take action and better yourself. I'm sorry that the business you worked for closed and you lost your job back then.
It's awesome that you're a swimmer! I was a swimmer too and I really miss it, but I'm reluctant to start again because I have the same concerns as you.
Covid was eye opening and it bothered me to see how many people lack the courtesy and respect for others and will go places when they are very sick. Even a few years later, I'm still very conscientious and paranoid. Our health is our wealth and I think it's worth protecting.
Getting started can be so challenging, but I think you're right. You'll feel so good once you get started. I challenge you to start something. It can be anything!
I try to go for a walk every day and right now I'm doing a strength training program I found on youtube.

@Alanaana thank you for the encouragement.
Something that I struggle with is, as odd as it sounds, eating. Early in life I adopted an "eat to cope" mechanism. So when I'm stressed -I eat, anxious - I eat, bored - I eat, depressed - I eat. I eat to "feel good". But do I really? When I over eat, I get bummed out, then I think "I know that was wrong I need to stop doing it" and resolve to quit emotional eating.
Then the next day as I'm going for the food it's "well, it's beef jerky it's good for me", or "It's not that bad I'll be alright" and the downward spiral continues.
There are days I can resist the inner food demon, but there are more days that I can't. The struggle is real, at least for me.
I've tried drinking more water, keeping toothpick handy, doing exercises to fight the urge to eat something, anything.
Eating food to me is almost an addiction. IF helps some but listening to my body and overriding my brain (emotions) is very difficult sometimes.

@kckndrgn Thank you for sharing what you're going through. I was hoping that on this thread we could talk about our victories, but also the things that we are working through. I meant to add "daily or consistent" accountability to the title, but can't figure out how to edit it.

Again, I can seriously relate to you here. I know that I have a food addiction and I console myself with food. In other areas of my life I don't really struggle with addictions. Other than a rare celebratory IPA with friends, I don't drink anymore and I've never been a smoker, but food has always been super accessible and easy to get hooked on especially now more than ever. Food scientists literally engineer our food to taste delicious and addictive, meanwhile marketers aren't helping us with our health either. There's also a massive social aspect to good food and drink. I eat to get through the emotions or boredom and then bury myself in guilt. And then when I don't end up "starting tomorrow," it feels overwhelming.

It's great that you're trying to figure out what works and taking a proactive approach. I'm with you on that. I also think that IF is helping me to be more aware. I have less cravings and the higher levels of fat and protein that I'm getting with Keto has been a good replacement, but I still crave sweets. I've found alternatives, but I can tell that that could be a bit of a slippery slope so I'm really going to keep an eye on it.

I think that both of us can make these healthy changes it's just going to be a process!

Yesterday was upper body / core. In the evening we went for a 2 mile walk by the water. My neighborhood has a really nice trail right by the ocean that is closed off to cars. During the daytime, everyone is there, but at night it's usually just fishermen or sometimes we have the trail to ourselves. I feel so thankful to have this place to walk by the ocean.

I'm feeling very strong. I've noticed that I have more of an appetite from weightlifting than I did when I was running. I also feel more tired, but maybe that's a good thing because I usually struggle with insomnia.

I'm moving to my other house on the first, but my current renter needs to move out and then the new renter is also moving into this house on the first. I'm trying not to get overwhelmed because the recovering perfectionist in me would have scheduled it so that all of this doesn't happen on the same day. I'm learning how to let go and go with the flow.

I hope you will all have a wonderful day today!

I never really understood the need to close the indoor pool, because the high amounts of chlorine in the water should kill everything, including the swimmers. Seriously, the air reeked of chlorine and the indoor pool should have been one of the safest places to be during Covid. My nose and eyes burned, it dried my skin, and made my nails and hair brittle! I took a shower before I got into the pool so that I wouldn't absorb so much of the pool water...now that I think about it, maybe swimming isn't so healthy after all!

@Wildbilly With that level of chlorination, you're probably right. I bet it would kill Everything. I used to be a swim coach and during those years it felt like chlorine permeated my entire existence. I did notice that my hair and skin improved when I stopped spending so much time in the pool setting. Our pools here are outdoors so I bet that the UV light and chlorine would kill things. Let me know if you end up swimming again. You may inspire me to do the same!

    Aloha!
Are we allowed to share YouTube links here? I hope I won't get in trouble for this. Yesterday evening I did this Fully Body Yoga Class with Sean Vigue and it was excellent.

I had a massage therapist a few years ago who recommended Sean Vigue's channel and back then his videos felt super intense. It's not the "fluffly, feel good yoga" and he makes sure that we make the most of the time. I didn't try another one of his videos for years, but recently revisited his channel and am so glad that I did. I like his "no-nonsense" approach and I always feel better afterwards. Also, he's funny and made a good reference to "The Warriors." I'm going do this class regularly.

Yesterday was Leg Day! Since I'm not very sore today, I probably can challenge myself more in the future. I ended the day with a 3 mile walk.

    How are you moving today?

@Gator 45/70 Mahalo! Tearing down an old house sounds like work, but also fun and satisfying. I bet that's a workout. If I'm not mistaken, the fundamental movement patterns that people train for at the gym are: Push, Pull, Squat (bend), Carry, Locomotion, and Hinge (in your case it will be Unhinge.) I think you have it all covered!

@Gator 45/70 I really hope that you're starting to feel better. I think the recovery time for that is 3 to 4 weeks, usually. I admire you for giving it a shot after just 10 days, but take as much time as you need to heal and recover.
    There's no rush!

I think that an old house will eventually come down on it's own eventually when subjected to the elements and with enough time.

It's kind of crazy how sensitive our head, neck, and cervical spine column is to even the tiniest micro motions. When I was 19 and taking a Western equine studies program in WY, my horse got spooked by a loud radiator and took off across the arena as fast as it could. I tried to stay on as long as I could, but it took a sharp turn, threw me off, and kicked me, and I landed on my head. I'm very thankful that I wasn't paralyzed, but that accident changed the whole trajectory of my life. I couldn't function, was very sick, and I've learned to live with the chronic neck pain and nerve damage. When things flare up, sometimes sitting, driving, or even getting comfortable to sleep can feel excruciating. That's kind of a long story... I'm doing much better now.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's not shame in taking time to rest and recover!
