My father was the Prime Contractor on our Family House he had built in 1952… He had an Architect draw up the Blueprints, and then hired the Concrete Work, Framers, Finish Carpenters, Plumbers, Electricians, and Roofers… The place had a large ,Concrete Front Porch, that from the outside looked Very solid… In reality, it concealed what Mom called her Pantry/Root Cellar. It was a 10’ X10’ Room, with 8” walls, 10” ceiling, and 6” floor which was part of the basement Slab, that was the same footprint as the rest of the house, and accessed thru a Door off the basement Family Room.. My father was a visionary Man, and in ‘62 when the A-bomb scares started, all our Emergency Supplies were packed in in there, just ready for what ever came… When all us kids were grown & Gone, and he and mom moved to an Apartment, they sold the house, and the buyers asked, what that room was for and Dad told them he had that “Bomb Shelter” built into the house design from the beginning… They were shocked, as they had never heard of such a thing, before

Many of whom stock the White House and US Congress. Put there by less well-educated fools.

I'm about to finish a house build at the beach,, I'm building about 4-5 blocks in from beach front ,, 2 lots in from a canal ,, on an Island . The plumbers came in the other day ,, dug a trench from the house to street to hook up water and sewer . I had an inspection scheduled for monday for the water and sewer . The owner has a guy he's paying to do piddly stuff around the jobsite . The water/sewer ditch kept filling up with water ,, he had the guy out there with a sump pump ,, pumping the water out of the ditch so it would be dry for the inspector. This was on Sunday ,, the ditch kept filling up after he pumped it out . The owner kept telling the guy to look for a leak in the water line . He was worried about having a leak in the lines and not passing inspection on Monday .
About 5pm Sunday ,,we were on the 2nd floor deck of a stilt/pylon house ,, the owner was stressing over the water leak and the ditch filling up with water , and the inspection . While standing on the deck looking down in the ditch ,, he asked what we were going to do about it ,,, I looked over towards the Canal ,, and said ,, if the inspector waits till about lunchtime tomorrow ,, we'll be fine . He looked at me and said ,, why qill that help anything ,,,, I said it'll be low tide and the water table will be lower .
The guy had no idea why we hauled in and backfilled the lot with 18 - 24 inches of dirt ,, and drove pylons 25 feet in the ground . The ditch was about dry around 11am when the inspector showed up . But the inspector knew why water was in the ditch when he got there .

So yeah ,, if you're in a coastal area ,, you've got to take the tides into account for any underground work .
