We had our third annual Dual Sport MC rally here this past MLK weekend. So after having ramrodded the big Saturday Night BBQ dinner, I find I have three large cans of baked beans still left unopened, and a 16-count pack of AA Batteries, and two 4-packs of D-cell batteries. Gotta love those Flourescent lanterns - one set of batteries lasted the whole weekend, and the light is still going strong!
I added some new rural/forest road routes to my BO/ENE maps too.

A week's worth of food in my HQ office, and about five days worth in the trunk of my work car.

    No idea[dunno]

This was an initial experiment, I didn't have any reciepes to follow.
As for pancakes, waffles etc, I think this is where the cultural divide makes a stand - I just don't eat that stuff, nor do I know anyone who does. Thats the problem with wheat. It seems great in terms of storage timespan, but in reality I haven't found a way of preparing/cooking it that I'm willing to live with.

Originally (at least in my head) I was looking for a no fuss breakfast - no cooking with minimal prep. Given my circumstances it makes the most sense.

Maybe I should start new thread on this subject...

Went to the Gun Show today and saw an Outdoor Camp Oven. It was very tempting to get it at $195, but I just couldn't bring myself to it. Here's a link to the mfr: http://campchef.com/catalog/item/1/14/0/C-OVEN/256/Outdoor+Camp+Oven+2+Burner+Range+and+Stove.html

Bought a couple 20-rnd boxes of .308 for hunting. A bunch of people had .308/nato they were selling for $0.50/rnd for 200 rnds minimum. That's probably the best we'll see for a long time; I could use some more (like who couldn't), but it'll have to wait until I save more.

Almost bought a Yugo M24/47 Mauser with bayonette for $125, but the serial numbers didn't match (bolt and receiver). It probably would have been fine, but I'd have to spend more money having an expert check headspace and whatnot.

Almost bought a 4-DVD set of self-defense (hand-to-hand) training videos for $100. "They regularly sell for $300!" -- they actually looked pretty good, but training in isolation doesn't work well for me.

So there you have it... a bunch of stuff I almost bought for my Emergency Stash and preparedness.[gone]

Friday the kids were scheduled for a half day, but because of freezing rain, they didn't have school at all so shopping had to wait until today. Stocked up on some more flour, beans and veggies. Also got some additional TP. According to our spreadsheet, we almost have 6 months worth of TP. Wish we had that much food, I think we are probably close to 3 months worth of food.

Mid-week, I finally convinced the wife to go to Sams. We renewed our membership and bought 25# of rice. Did the math compared to grocery store and we just need to pay 3 more 25# bags of rice and it will pay for the membership.

I was disappointed to see that my Sams doesn't carry big bags of pinto beans like I hear of others getting. I went to their web page and there isn't a Sams within 100 miles that does carry the beans.

Also picked up 2 bottles of iodine crystals for water purification. Ordered them online and when the package came, there was only 1 bottle. I contacted the guy and he sent me the other bottle. Opened the package today and he also included one of those LED flashlights with the attached firestarting rods.

I picked up the "Little Buddy" space heater, hose for larger tank, and "fuel filter" from Lowes. They were all on clearance and the weatherman was calling for freezing rain (never happened).

Picked up another 1k .40/10mm and 9mm bullets and a case (5k) of primers for reloading.

If your looking for an oven alone try searching for this model. Its made by colemans and runs off the small camping gaz cylinders. I think its a bit cheaper, but I only have a UK link, which is definately over priced. I have seen them on US sites for a lot less.

Third product down in the list

Thanks for the link, Slots -- ovens in general could probably come in useful for things besides cooking.

Also, we need to start a new thread on what to do with Hard Red Wheat -- if I get back home before too late, I have about 4 recipes to post (including the standard 24-hr soak). Normally I wouldn't worry about how to make use of it, but it's about the cheapest survival food around :^) Putting away wheat in the correct containers doesn't cost all that much, and is great for long-term survival because of what you can do with it.

Haven't made my weekly run to Sam's yet this week.

T.P. but I can never seem to get enough. My wife a a touch of the flu as I did last night, now I have to go get some more. Seems like when I get a good run on some supplies I dig into them right away so I sometime feel I'm not making any progress in it

Just tucked 24 lb of pinto beans and 20 lb of fancy pasta under the bed with the canned goods. In just a bit, I'm unloading about 200# of dry milk (baking and cooking purposes)...... that ought to last a little while.

This week was rather kind of a limited supply week. Added some additional bottled water. Also added ammo, 1,650 of .22LR and 200 rounds of .40 S&W. The .40 is for the XD40 I bought on monday. Haven't picked it up yet, but should just be a couple more days, clerk said that the wait period tends to be 10 days, so mid week it should be ready.

Also starting the tomato and pepper seeds for this year's garden. Our first garden ever and hoping to learn quite a bit from it.

Not going to happen here in MD. Supposedly carry permits exist, but I don't know anyone that's successfully gotten one.

Finally getting back to my Prep Stocking.
Got many cans of meat (beef & chicken) and veggies today - got enough rice & beans for now, gotta build up the other things.
Bought two more packs of Strike-Anywhere matches. Two sealed steel cans of Irish Oatmeal - good stuff! Will keep longer than the paper packages. Four bags of wide egg noodles. Four smaller bottles of Hot Sauce - I rarely use it, so it would be 'trading stock'.
