Strange....the opposite of conformity is non-conformity...sometimes non-conformity requires courage, sometimes it does not.

If a dead fish is floating downstream with the flow of water, and the rest of the fish are swimming upstream to spawn, that doesn't make the downstream floating fish a non conformist, it just means that fish is dead....

I'll have to step it up. I'm not part of the problem yet.

I think that should be qualified as "books you've read"
Lots of people have books they've never read. It shows.

there is always the 'Putin limited mobilisation' option....use PMC sub contractors to trawl through prisons, retirement villages, and orphanages for cannon fodder...

    or

replicate 'Project 100,000' (aka Macnamaras Moron Corps)

We did them a worse disservice than just drafting them. We promoted them. There's always "the 10%" in the Marine Corps, and the 10% I ran into were illiterate and dangerous, but not stupid. They were masters of deception, always having forgotten their reading glasses or wanting our opinion. I ran into illiterate Marines in leadership positions as high as Gunnery Sergeant and it likely went higher. The only up side was that with me as a young Corporal writing promotion recommendations for everybody in my squad we looked good on paper. Too good. It was my promotion recommendations that brought the Gunny's illiteracy to the attention of the command. This accelerated his alcohol problems and eventually he was relieved of duty and retired quietly. In the end, it was a good ending. Unable to follow simple written instructions he could've gotten Marines killed.
