Have a 9 year old LG refrigerator and the linear compressor died found out there was a class action suit and LG has to cover the compressor/labor/parts (faulty compressor that they have not changed ) up to 5 years then they have to replace the compressor up to 10 years. Here is the catch it costs 800-1000 to have it installed if you can find some one to do it. So I have a $2600 dollar piece of junk. Did some on line search and found you can put an old style compressor (bullite proof)in with some minor wire changes. Make a long story short for less than $250 bucks I was able to fix my refrigerator takes R134 A about a 6 oz. 9 bucks, compressor $210, 2 relays 20 bucks. Never buy a Kenmore Elite or an LG or Samsung refrigerator they still use the crap linear compressor. freezer is freezing and the refrigerator is in the 33-38 range

Different design , like R12 to 134a . Same size unit with less KWA for the days draw. 18 deep freezers here. S

I'm not well versed on the different types of refrigerants thanks for all the info. LG uses R-134 A so that's what I went with and an Embraco compressor. designed for R 134 A
It's hard to find a residential freezer with 410a. They are more expensive to manufacture as they are higher pressure and because of the temperature glide they need a thermostatic expansion valve instead of a simple capillary tube to meter the refrigerant.
I've read that the refrigeration using R-410A is engineered with thicker walled tubing to handle the higher operating pressures. Also, the compressor is of a different design.

What are your needs @Bandit99 ? Size wise. You could go with a commercial refrigerator if you have room. Need a combination Refrigerator/freezer? Want an independent vegetable drawer? Singal or dual compressor? Because there are many out there.
We bought a Whirlpool (top refrigerator bottom freezer0 had the best reviews, made in USA, has standard compressor. The LG I fixed will go in the garage as a second refrigerator/freezer along with the Frigidaira. When my son finishes his house I'll give the LG to him for his garage. My son and his friend found an old International Harvester refrig in an old cabin--it had fallen through the floor sitting on dirt. Brought it to the shop where he works plugged it in and it still works they keep water in it. Looked up the serial # made in 1956 that's when things were made to last. IH only made frigs for a short time.
In the house, we have 2 ea. Refrigerator/freezers. I am concerned about the main one, which came with the house (probably 10+ years old), an LG which has a large freezer at the bottom and my wife really likes is getting long in the tooth. So, yes it has to be a combo. The other is a Kenmore, a side-by-side combo also, serves as a secondary and especially for cold drinks. We hate it but got it for a song when Sears closed its store here and its good enough for a secondary. So, yes, must be a combo with a large freezer on the bottom. The wife hates any other types because you can get more them and easier to locate something. Got any recommendations? @johnbb I thought Whirlpool didn't make ANYTHING in the states anymore! Please provide model number. I am still unclear what I should look for in compressor type. I know you said NOT a Linear Compressor but what am I supposed to look for?
