I'll never talk anybody out of SWFA! But, do consider this 3x micro prism and you have to know the 5x version is just around the corner. I have two of them coming Monday, one for 5.56 and the second for 300 BO. I'll let you know if they live up to the reviews. Weight is under 8 Oz. If you want a QD bas it's compatible with Trijicon bases - see below for this clip from the MAC review
I admit to truly liking the Primary Arms stuff, good price for good gear. I would never give up my 4-14X Primary Arms scope but it is simply too heavy to be a primary optic. Yeah, I will look at the 3X and hope to see a 5X soon. Vortex just came out with a 5X at 10.8 oz so I bet Primary Arms will do so also. EDIT: Wow! under 8 oz! Good price too! Let me know how these worked out for you! I'll want to get on order before Xmas rush. EDIT: Watching videos on this, really, really like what I am hearing! I might not be able to wait for 5X as Christmas might have to come early. LOL!
I still run an Aimpoint (Comp M2) for the CQB "battle rifle" setup. It ain't broke, so I haven't had a need to ever change. Battery lasts forever, too.
My impression is pretty positive. The good: Compact and streamlined Appears as rugged as the reviews indicate Comes in either 5.56/308 or 7.62 commie/300 BO versions. Wide field of view 38 feet at 1,000 yards. Even better than an ACOG, which is one of it's claims to fame. Glass is very clear ACSS reticle is illuminated Eye length is very forgiving Compatible with ACOG mini bases (three hole) like the AC12035 so you can add a QD base. Comes with a variety of risers to get the perfect adjustment. Comes in black or FDE 3x is perfect tor a usable ACSS reticle. 3x is still easy to shoot with both eyes open for CQB while having enough power to accommodate longer ranges Night vision compatible The meh: While eye relief is forgiving the eye box is not as good as much more expensive scopes. it's not a real issue, just something to be aware of. No eyepiece diopter adjustment, but even with my astigmatic 20-35 right eye is crystal sharp. No green illumination for them that prefer it over red. The bad: My 1x Cyclops scopes are now obsolete and taking up space For it's intended use I give it a 9+ out of 10. Does almost everything well and is inexpensive enough to replace if you manage to break it.
A little clarification on terminology... I should have been more specific about the term "battle rifle". I've always assumed that meant a 7.63x51 or thereabouts rifle like the FAL, HK91, M1A, AR10, etc.. It's a rifle that won't be as nimble as an M4 or AK-47 but has the ability to deliver serious punch at longer distances. Still a great discussion thread on optics and learned a lot.
Thanks! I will hold out hoping for a 5X release before Christmas but if not then I will pick up two as its 99% perfect. Given my old eyes, I would prefer a 4X but 3X will work also...
The optics I use depends upon which weapon... AK, none- AR, an early Colt 3x scope once a "standard" for the AR/M16 rifles, and 2x7 for other AR rifle. FAL and H&K 91(actual by definition "battle rifles", none at this time, using the stock open sights. I have a sportered Steyr Mauser for which I have a 3x9 Burris that I haven't gotten around to mounting on it. If hunting were still a "thing" with me it would have been done long ago, hopefully will git r dun before the ...
