I heard that there is already fuel oil rationing in the north east?
    Anyone know for sure?
I'm in new Mexico and I know at least one store was out of diesel in my town yesterday.

I remember the gas lines of the 70's as well. But you are right that was an artificial shortage. Our situation today is a result of this administrations war on fossil fuels. But there is another component to it. One that I am reluctant to bring up because I know some of the responses it will generate. But the fact is that Peak Oil has not gone away. It is a fact, the fields of the world are depleting. The only thing that has changed was that the scientific advances in directional drilling and in fracking have allowed us to recover a lot more oil than we ever have been able to before. So a lot of the dire predictions from the peak oil crowd in the 90's and early oughts haven't come to pass. Yet. Many of us back then said that based on the statistics and available science back then that it would take a miracle to forestall what was coming. And to rely on that miracle was foolish. Well the miracle came. But it doesn't change the fact that we are still not discovering new fields. None that are considered majors that could affect world supply to any meaningful degree. We basically came up with new methods to more efficiently scrape the bottom of the barrel.
When Bidumb was on his way to Saudi to beg for more oil Macron told him that they did not have the capacity to increase production more than a couple hundred thousand barrels per day. And no one else does either. They and all the other countries are producing basically balls to the wall.
I worked in Saudi for over 20 years and I have seen it first hand. The Gawahr field, the largest field ever discovered has gone from wells free flowing 20,000 barrels a day to the largest water flood in the world. They are pumping 7 1/2 million barrels a day of seawater into the field to flush out the remaining oil. And only recovering about 15%. It's only a matter of time before thier production starts on the unreversable downward slope. The recent 200,000 bbl per day cut in production makes since. Milk what you can for as long as you can. So our only hope is to ramp up our own production and get what we can for as long as we can.
But that makes me wonder if world leaders are not fully aware of that. Is that the reason for this worldwide push for green energy? In the early oughts most industry watchers were estimating, based on the current conditions and science, that by this time we would be feeling the dire effects of peak oil. But the unexpected advances plus the higher prices, allowed us to increase supply much more than anyone thought would be possible. So what did that do for the overall picture? Did that push the goal post down to 2030, 2040?
We all know that this pie in the sky push for green energy does not make any logical sense. But it does if the world is fast approaching the point of no return where fossil fuels are concerned.
The only solution now is DRILL BABY DRILL.

Yes I was in college (after my military service) Carter was in office OPEC got together and fix the prices. At that time as now we have more coal, natural gas, oil and the ability to built safe nuclear reactors but our elected (say that with sarcasm) have stood in the way. Say what you will about TRUMP but he knows this country runs on reasonable priced energy something the demoRATS refuse to see. IMO it's intentional.

I've got a 1975 John Deere diesel tractor, about 100 gals. of diesel, and ALL of the equipment necessary to farm! I just wish that my tractor was able to run on Straight Vegetable Oil, as well as diesel, but the fuel pump won't handle the high temperatures required. I would like to get an older Ford gasoline tractor that would burn ethanol (aka moonshine)...someday! There are a lot of cheap 9N tractors, also 2N, 8N and others, but many of them are hedgerow finds that should be hauled -off for scrap metal! A GOOD tractor is gonna cost $4000-6000, unless you are a diesel mechanic and want a hobby. Still, that is cheap when compared to the cost of new tractors of the same size! Also, the quality of older tractors is superior to ANY of the newer stuff.

It'll be too late. The pain begins "After" the election. Red wave will have to be 2024 ... if the voters can remember that long.
The general voter has to be the most short term memory thing on the planet.

IF diesel runs out there probably won’t be a 2024 election. No diesel no: trucks, trains, farm equipment, airplanes, military vehicles. I just heard on “Redacted” that there are 1million barrels of diesel left in the strategic reserve or about 6 hours worth. Oh, and though the vehicles that worn’ t run are bad enough how many homes are heated with home heating oil? 2024 promises to be very different indeed.

Depletion of the strategic reserve is the real scary problem here.

This is the lowest its ever been... all for a political stunt. Prices are creeping back up and now that the election is a few days away prices are going to the moon.

Here's Max & Stacy talking about it.

If diesel runs out there probably won't be a country by 2024! Just isolated enclaves of civilization surrounded by a howling wilderness populated by savage cannibals! As always, I got a plan for that!

The Great Big Lie that we're running out of oil has never been more untrue then now!
Fact, there in more Oil still in the ground then we have pulled out over the last 120 years, they just don't like the fact it's not under control of anyone aligned with the western world! Have a look at the area east of the Black Sea, into the sea of Azov and the white sea, all the way to the Caspian, and on up into the Siberian districts! YUGE quantities of oil ripe for the drillin and yet it's the wild wild west! Venezuela sits atop one of the worlds vast reserves, and look at what is happening there! The Whole north sea area between Canada and Russia is overflowing with Oil, but we cannot access it, Yet! The point is, there are billions of barrels worth still untapped all over the world, and Russia is hell bent to control as much of it as they can! Think about something here for a Min, 70% of the world is covered by water, how much OIL is hidden by all that water? We can only drill close to land, the deeper the water, the more effort needed to drill to reach that oil, so the lie that we are running out is blatantly false!

I always wonder, What will happen to Saudi once they pump the desert dry? What then, go back to being flee bitten camel herders with no pot to piss in? Right now, they are the worlds greatest concentration of wealth, what happens when the oil is gone?

It doesn't matter how much oil is left in the ground, but if you can't get it out of the ground it doesn't matter! We can still extract oil, but only at a greater and greater cost to the producers and consumers. If you think inflation is bad now, just imagine that gas and diesel are $10 a gallon! Long before we run out of oil, we will run out of affordable oil! New technologies will ensure that we always have oil and the fuels derived from it, but the cost will go up and availability will go down!
It's gonna be fun living in a world where the Russians control the oil!
Don't worry too much about the Saudis, I'm sure that they have warehouses filled with Dollars, Euros, gold, silver, diamonds, stocks, bonds, deeds, etc. They have been planning for a long time for the day when the oil runs out!
