pronouncing a country's name

    Philippines... just talked to a rep for CC and she pronounced it as feel LIP eens...???


    or more like phiLIP eens... was very different sounding then I have heard in the past... and I could NOT understand her...


    the pronunciation was quick and for me odd and hard to understand...


    had to say it myself then she said yes...


    interesting and figure this is probably true about how native speakers say their countries names...

    And, many are saying we should be pronouncing our country's name as - Amerika - since it is becoming more and more like a totalitarian realm.

    Don't be silly...the pronunciation is 'Murica. ;) I was expecting OD to go all New Testament and pronounce Philippines as 'Philippians' ;)

    Speaking of OK, what's up with the police there? I have been pulled over every single time I pass through there with out fail. At the border they have 100 cops just circling and waiting just to write tickets... like hitting a bee hive with a stick.
