Furthermore, this will kill Democratic chances for upcoming election as its extremely unpopular and even the folks who will benefit from it will tell you it's wrong - yet - he doesn't care. Why? No, the Constitution states Spending power that Congress has the power to spend money and the Executive branch has the right to spend the money authorized under Congressional oversight. Been ignored for so long and bypassed in so many ways, that short answer, he doesn't have right to do so, but will get away with it.

The military budget goes for the protection of our country ,, the military protects our country ,,,, the wall also helps protect our country . I've got two pissed kids that either paid as they went or just recently paid off student loans. But the youngest is only half way through college and ... that 10k will pay off 2 years worth of loans taken out. And yes, it is buying votes. Just like cracking open the SPR and releasing oil until it dries up after the midterm elections in november. Just buying time and votes as you go. SSDD my friends. Both parties pander to their base. EDIT: And those that received the Federal Pell grants get their loan forgiveness bumped to 20k. Hell of a deal. Just don't make over 125k per year and uncle sugar will shower you with some Benjamins.
There are going to be a lot of pissed-off folks, like my nephew and his wife, that have paid-off their student loan debt and are now having to pay again...for someone else! They went to state colleges and got degrees/careers that pay good money (he is an engineer, and she is a nurse), unlike those saps that went to Ivy League schools and got degrees in gender or ethnic studies, modern dance, poetry, or literature, and want someone to pay-off their considerable debts!
If someone went to harvard or yale, and they didn't have a job making more than 125k ... then they made some bad choices. The 10k (or up to 20k) is basically to shore up support in the lower / middle class of voters behind the democratic ticket. Is it fair? Oh hell no. is it going to piss off a lot of responsible folks .. yeah, but the number of folks that will be eligible for this is greater than those it does nothing for. it's a cheap money for vote scheme, best part is .. they are going to pay for it with tax payer money. It's not like it's coming out of their pocket. Win-win for the party that pushes this through. No different that corp bailouts, helicopter money, industry specific tax breaks or government spending project. They all do it. Just have to use the tax code to play their game so you don't have to pay the taxes that fund these programs is the only way out of it.
Everything has a Catch, you watch and see, a few years from now, those debts will come back to haunt everyone in the form of raised taxes, and with the 88K new IRS agents all packing Shiny brand spanking new full auto FN rifles, they WILL get their money back plus interest compounded weekly!
I do not believe he can legally do it. I think it is just another Biden scam to allow him to say, "See! I tried to do what I said I would do and eliminate student load debt but they wouldn't let me." I just cannot understand how this is even possible! I never took a federal student loan or even a grant. I was forced to join the military to get the education bennies because I ran out of money to finish school and I did finish without any federal assistance. This is total BS!

Much of what Trump spent does fall under the Constitution and its requirement that money be spent for the common good. A border wall to maintain the security of the immigration status and keep out illegal aliens or spending on the armed forces to secure our nation does that. One can argue that paying for welfare, giving a select class of voters 10 to 20 thousand, or thousands in child care payments will at least "influence" their selections of who they vote for in November. Much of what they are promising is not here now, but good propaganda and something that may actually happen in the future. Drug cost limitations come to mind. Democrats are very much like French kings in late 1700's. Live well, spend what you want, and let the next generation, people and royalty sort it out. Chaos and removing heads seems to have followed. Don't know what follows Brandon, but I doubt that the planned socialist world will solve all our problems and lead us to the promised land. I don't think that we have even entered the wilderness yet and haven't run across any manna bushes lately so it may well be a lot less forgiving wilderness.
