OMG we love boiled peanuts-- grew peanuts when my boys were little and the wife made boiled peanuts and canned them in qt jars, put them on the shelf with the other canned stuff. The boys would come home from school and grab a jar of boiled peanuts wasn't long before they ate every jar. Just last week the wife made boiled peanuts just can't eat one.
Do yourself a favor, and don't!! My Father loved them, but they are disgusting! However, I did like deep-fried peanuts in the shell. They clean your teeth as you chew them, and all of that ruffage and oil will keep you regular...just don't eat too many!
I had somebody talk me into trying one. Now I like peanuts just fine. All kinds, even fresh ones right out of the dirt that are too small and a little pink. But boiled peanuts? Yuk! I guess it's like eating boogers. I never acquired a taste for them either. The whole gas station crock pot with water that's been in there for some unknown time is repulsive too. Yeah. I'll pass.
Yeah, kinda like the tub of iced beers in a liquor store! They look so cold that you just have to buy one, but soooo nasty! If you have ever had to clean one out, you would never drink a beer out of one again! Hell, it's enough to make you stop drinking beer! I have seen customers wash their dirty hands off in the water, and a few took a half-bath in the water. I've ever had several drink water out of the tub! I finally convinced my Father to take them out of all of our liquor stores by having him help me clean one of them out. It nearly made him sick! Don't get me wrong, we sold a lot of single beers that way, but the cost in ice, the mess, and the ick factor caused us to take them out of all of our liquor stores. I would rather drink a hot beer (bottled water or cold drink too) than one from an ice tub in a store!
Hard pass! I tried them several times in the east coast, never could cotton to um! Now dri roasted yummy! I much prefer the Hoodies brand, lightly salted, and very flavorful, but getting harder and harder to find! We have the Sunshine brand here pretty much everywhere, and they are about the closest we have to the Hoodies brand! We roast all our seeds, from Sunflower to Pumpkin and pine nuts, all done I'm the oven with light Utah sea salt!
Staple here in the South, but they can be overcooked. We boil a batch for 15 minutes (5 gallon pot), turn off the heat and put 2 cups of salt. They come out soft but not slimy, and they pull in the salt as they cool down. Like roller dogs, that mess at a gas station isn't fit for human consumption.
If your not southern you won't understand boiled peanuts, peanuts in your coke or Pepsi and moon pies
The salted shelled peanuts in a package you find at truck stops, 7-11, etc add it to the coke and drink-------sounds weird history of it Theories date back to the 1920s when Coca Cola was popular and farming was a huge economic factor in the south. Some (the internet) say that this tradition started because farmers had dirty hands and short breaks so they would pour the peanuts into Coke to eat and work at the same time without eating dirt.
