    Apparently, someone set off a bomb that destroyed one of the stone pillars. This made the monument unstable and heavy equipment was brought in to finish the job. Soon all that will be left will be gravel.

    Problem is lightning usually doesn't do a lot of damage to solid stone unless there is water trapped inside.
    If not a controlled demolition could it have been a ballistic weapon?
    Perhaps a civil war cannon?
    It would have to be big, like a 6lb gun.

    I ran across the Guidestones quite a few years back with doing research on one of my books.

    What struck me was the secrecy of the whole thing. There is mostly noting but stupid platitudes for the most part. To compare these with Stonehenge has to noting but PR crap for the local tourist outfit.

    The next question will be what was in the 'time capsule' on site?
