Many 'normal' 'healthy' adult care givers abrogate their responsibilities for preparing the young for adulthood by avoiding discussion of sexuality and related topics, leaving the knowledge deficits to be corrected by (disasterous for some) heuristic experiential learning with all the consequences that go with that kind of hit and miss method of discovery.

 

Probably a good thing that they don't...

There's nothing "normal or healthy" about discussing sexuality with someone else's young children, or even teaching sex education to 12-17 year olds without explicit written parental consent. We put teachers in prison for stuff like that around here.

It's the parents job to teach their kids about "the birds and the bees." Nowadays the kids likely know more than the parents, but it remains a parental responsibility.

we always hated transporting marines on our aircraft because it was such a pain in the ass to get all the lick marks off the windows!

 

I am referring to the parents / guardians of such young people; whose lack of involvement in preparing their charges for adulthood, on such issues as sexuality, gender identity, gender expression, sexual health, reproductive issues, and relationships, etc ill prepare their charges for life as an adult, and leave them vulnerable to sexual exploitation.

I agree that it is a parent's job to teach their kids, but often they signally fail in that task...leaving their kids to fill that knowledge deficit with comparable ignorance from their peers, or the hard way, by being exploited by actual predators, perverts and pedophiles...whom are as like to be people that the kids are personally acquainted with, such as kinfolk, neighbours, church congregants or members of youth organisations...and yes...at schools etc.
