Just buy an electric car

Driving an electric vehicle on a road trip is stupid. The only way to take a electric vehicle on a road trip is on the back of a trailer. I get the feeling that person set out with the intention of failing and met their goal.
They didnt invent shit, bastard fuel cell cars have been around since the 1990s. Fuel cells are dumb. It's a more expensive way to have the efficiency of an internal combustion engine using more expensive fuel.

As you can see from the videos below, Elon knows that the limited range is THE biggest issue they face. He is doing a lot of research and I surmise that people will be swapping out the old Lithium batteries for ones that get a whole lot better performance in the near future. What will that do to the demand for his cars? The waiting list is already 2 months to buy a Tesla.

What I wonder is how many people will be driving gasoline cars once battery cars get you 3000+ miles per charge?

It's limited range, but 2 cents a mile energy cost if you can charge at home.
Can't charge at home? Don't bother getting one.
The practcal limit of a battery in a car is around 1,000lb. Right now 1,000lb of batteries is good for between about 60 to 70kwh. The limit to how much battery you can pack in the case, cool it and have it be rugged enough to survive a high speed crash is probably going to be between 100 and 200kwh.
Note: 1kwh will get you up to 5 miles driving in the city, 3 on the interstate. -1 miles in winter for highway and city driving.

The solution is a standardized battery pack. You pull into your Jiffy Charge station, and they remove your uncharged battery pack and install a completely charged replacement. You pay a fee as if you were buying gas and 10 minutes later you are on your way. Like changing the battery in a cordless drill.

There is No Way an Electric Vehicle can pull into a Jiffy Charge, and 10 minutes later leave after having a complete Battery Swap… Mechanically that is impossible, even if a NASCAR PitCrew is doing the change…

The only battery standard now is there is no standard. Same makes have vastly different battery foot prints.

Forget Tesla, look at the work of Christian VonKonnesegge, That's the future!
His free valve tech, ( invented by Navastar in the early 2000's) was the first step to a new future that didn't need crazy or exotic fuels! His Signe Wave Brushless hybrid Motors were the second innovation to push us out of the electric stone age, and now, with high power density battery tech, mainly from Graphine ( for now) we can damn near taste the future!
There is still a lot of work to be done, and I'm watching it closely, but it's people like Christian who will figure it all out and make it happen!

I remember the first great revolution in electric power, back around 97, we saw brushless motors hot the hobby world, and boy was it a shocker, no more brushed motors, no arking and sparking, and we could draw power off the Nickle Metal Hydride batteries faster then they could supply, usually melting connections and burning things up! Once the switch to Lithium batteries, initially, the Older NMh batteries had more "Punch" but the Lipo had the capasity to go longer at higher discharge rates. The switch to Li-Ion changed that even more, and combined with the switch to batter optically ran motor controllers and very high amp rotors and magnets, the power levels went far beyond anything we had ever seen, even today! Now we have the next tech, signe wave brushless motors with their incredible torque and horsepower combined with far better controller tech, and we now have Graphine batteries that are viable as power packs, this is the wave of the future as we know it!
Add everything above with the world of Audi/Lamborghini with it's "Super Capasators" for that power boost, or what VonKonnesegge has come up with in his free valve hybrid, and you can have unlimited power for as long as you want or need! The piston engine is far from dead, I say, it's just finally getting started, and no more big oil holding it back now!

I’ve also been thinking about an electric motorcycle.

And preppers will have a 1970s truck out back that can run on drip gas when they first send the signal to have automotive computers brick themselves and then take down the grid.

I will always want to keep some mode of long distance high speed transport that can be viable without an internet connection or the power grid.

If I remember correctly Koenigsegg's cars are all made by hand and cost an arm and both legs. Yeah they're great but I haven't seen one I can buy... yet.

It's not the cost, it's the tech!
Someone needed to do the work, and his offerings show the future! He offers the tech for sale to anyone who wants to use it, so it's up to the rest of the world to take it and run with it.

It would obviously require some redesign of electric cars, and investment in infrastructure. Doable, but not immediately.

I could see it done if there were a Spec type of Battery pack, that was a common plug and play configuration!
Say we come up with some number ( Like 10) available configurations based on what actually fits a given brand or configuration, I.E. Pick up vs Passenger Sedan vs Sport car,...........As long as there were a set number of Spec. packs from which to work with, it could be pretty easy! You could even trade up or down depending on range or power needs, that could be added to the basic service at additional cost, or savings depending on how it's used!

How they going to send out a signal to obd1 cars?
My leaf is a 2011 and uses 3g for connectivity but 3g has been abandoned everywhere in the US, it hasn't received an update since about 2015 or 2016.

Everyone can't just go out and buy an electric car.
For 2020 only 2% of new vehicles sold were electric. For 2022 less than 3% are electric and there are lithium shortages.
Plus if all passenger vehicles were electric, the United States would need to generate at least 20% electricity, electricity providers have trouble keeping up with the 1 to 2% demand growth per year, especially in California lol.

I think Musk realizes that power generation has to increase to meet the demands of EV's and it won't happen with solar or windmills. It's also unlikely that new hydro will happen in any meaningful way so there aren't a ton of options. I think he sees the potential for an emerging market that could be vert lucrative. I don't see him going all in unless he's holding a winning hand.
