Yeah if you don't get the super quick charging and the long range batteries there's really no point. That being said I am laying out some plans for an electric motor cycle. It is going to be soooo sweet!

I like the idea of an electric side by side

Those were around 10 years ago… They were marketed as the “Big Boy” Add a Honda Inverter Generator and an MTTP Charge Controller, and you gots yourself a quick and dirty Hybrid…

Electric cars are alright as city commuters, but the technology hasn't matured nearly enough to support highway and trip use. At my stage of life, the money I don't spend on one will buy a LOT of gas, oil, and service for my old car.

    Tesla.

My 55 Dodge is a Hybrid, it burns Gas, Oil, and Tires like crazy, but still gets better gas millage then many new cars, and it looks better then any of them! Might not be the newest, latest, greatest, but it's got it where it counts!

The idea of a pure 'letric car is fine so long as you have the means to charge it, and keep it topped off while your not using it, long trips don't work, especially with almost no grid support, it's a waste of time and expense to say the least! Hybrids are better both short term and into the future, not tied to a flexy grid with rolling black outs or worse, I say buy the hybrids and leave the pure 'letrics to the short tripper city folk!

Bro has a Chevy Volt, Damn nice little commuter, his daily is around 2 hours, about 60 miles, and it only cost him gas about every three weeks to fill it up! He can charge it at work for about $3.00 per day, and the operating costs are way WAY cheaper then normal cars! He is only limited in range by the contents of his fuel tank and what ever battery life it has when the engine runs dry! Living in the Bay Area, this is the only car that makes any sense, all the others besides pure gas will leave you stranded at some point! Last year, Bro had over 70 days no 'letric power, no means to charge his car, and no A/C in his shitty little one room apartment! I told him to go and buy a little Honda One Lunger Genny and hook it to his portable A/C unit and fridge and call it good! He actually saved quite a bit of money not having to pay the big 'letric bills and the little Honda sipped the go go juice about 2 gallons per day at normal load! Basically paid for it's self the third month of not having to pay an electric bill, even though he had to buy fuel for it every week!

I looked at a couple back then, and I didn’t think they were quite ready for primetime.
There was a CanAm Commander, Polaris Ranger, and the Bad Boy…all used conventional batteries, not lithium. I hear Polaris and CanAm are going to try again. Would be very cool around the hunting property.

Range and the fragility of the power grid now that coal and nat gas are under threat are serious limitation to this mode of transport.
Imagine having to go cross country. You'd be stopping for hours every 2-4 hundred miles for an EV vs Minutes for an ICE equipped vehicle. 36 hours cross country with dual drivers on gasoline, a week if you are lucky in an EV perhaps?
You can take the most direct route with gasoline as you can fuel up just along any interstate.
an EV .. you are going to have to plot your route.

Now if you are urban and don't leave the city or the close suburbs .. it's fine. But if ya want to get to the off grid hunting cabin in the Hiawatha National Forest .. bring the dino juice consuming rig.

With the coming blackouts, all those with EVs are gonna be trapped in their homes.

Ah, what memories…. Loved my ‘55 Dodge PowerWagon Panel Truck… Courted AlaskaChick with that truck… I think she married me for the Truck more than love… but after 50+ years, well I might be mistaken…

Meanwhile, Tesla just started rolling out fuel cell powered EV's and is investing in fusion. Could get interesting, but I'm waiting for the smoke to clear before I go all in. Otherwise I might wind up with a museum piece that nobody wants to pay museum prices for.

Before that happens, Trump or DeSantis gets sworn in Jan 20, 2025 and in a couple of years we will be a net exporter again.

That Tesla Model S Plaid is just about one of the fastest cars you can get and the price tag is way less than a slower, all gas, Ferrari or Lamborghini or what ever. Even the model 3 is not bad. The problem I see is that its like apples and oranges. Compare the first cars to horses. People used to do that. There comes a point when its no longer close but people still have both. Having the OPTION is the most important thing and with all of the corruption in the auto and oil industry its not a bad thing to have both.

The range issue is simple, just throw an extra battery in the trunk and you’re all set. S/o
