Well, it has finally happened! For a while it looked as if the Russian Army was going to camp out on the Ukrainian border forever! I hate it for the Ukrainians, but a land war with Russia is a losing cause. The sanctions against Russia, along with an ongoing pandemic and shipping crisis, are going to push the entire world into a recession. I, personally, don't think Ukraine is worth it!

I don't think that Russia really wants the entirety of Ukraine, just those Russian speaking areas in the eastern part of Ukraine. Those areas have been in open revolt for a decade and it's unlikely that they will ever be part of Ukraine again! The Ukrainians are brave, I'll give them that, but if I had to bet real money...I'd have to go with Russia! I don't think that the sanctions will work because #1 Germany is still, and will continue, to buy Russian natural gas! They have to! #2 Russia is a major exporter of oil and natural gas, wheat, corn, fertilizer, lumber, strategic minerals, gold, and diamonds. If you remove Russian exports from the world markets shortages will ensue, prices will soar even higher and economies will tank, and in some parts of the world people will starve. Eventually, Ukraine will have to sue for peace for the sake of the rest of the country, unless they would rather end up like Yugoslavia or Syria!

Yep...That's pretty much how some Americans felt about the Sudeten land...Slovakia, Austria, Poland, Belgium, Holland, Norway, Denmark, France, and damned near Great Britain until the Nips entered the war.

Il Duce, Donaldo the Magnifico would happily hand over Ukraine to Putin just to keep Putin from calling in Trump's loan markers. There's one American who'll side with the Russians over his own countrymen.

Just realized that the distance from the US to Ukraine is almost exactly the same as Australia to Taiwan. I guess we'll be able to count on the Australians to defend Taiwan? We sure as shit won't see them in the Ukraine.
Everyone wants to send American troops all over the map, then bitch and complain about the externalities they didn't consider before calling for their deployment.
Shouldn't Taiwan be handing out AKs, Javelins, and Stingers? Talk about history repeating itself.

  8. Maybe Ukraine should recruit Afghani freedom fighters to combat the Russians. Didn't they fight them to a stand-still? (With help from Uncle Sam)

Good heavens...it's bad enough with Russian Orthodox military and Ukrainian Orthodox military having a stouch with each other without inserting geriatric Afghani Mujahidin Muslims into the fighting also....funding Mujahidin 'freedom' fighters (who later morphed into the Taliban), bit the US in the @$$ big time. The dictum, "my enemy's enemy is my friend" doesn't necessarily follow, when my enemy's enemy considers me an enemy also.

As it happens...Chechen mercenaries are fighting for both sides....and at the end of the day...will probably have little compunction in biting the hand that feeds them if the fortunes of war warrant it in their own best interest.

I’m glad to see that Poland called Biden’s bluff on the MiGs. I get nervous when I see that Soros, Schwab and his minions are all in for the Ukraine. Russia is a bad guy, but so is the Ukraine and the US. There is finally some concern that all of the bio-labs that the US has constructed in the Ukraine are in jeopardy, I hope Putin destroys them all. This is a messy situation and the more we shun idiots like Sean Hannity and Lindsey Graham et al, the better for the world. We really should sit this one out, I think that we have poked the bear once too often and now his is pissed.

I'll have you know that the ADF is dusting off the muzzle loading cannons in Fort Denison at this very moment.

Fort Denison was constructed in the 1850's the last time that the Russians were perceived to be a clear and present danger to the colony of New South Wales!

Not much to see here politically, just Putin taking advantage of a weak and rudderless US to further his goal of rebuilding the Russian/USSR empire. Pretty expected once Brandon OK'd Gulfstream 2 and Putin didn't need to worry so much about Russia's pipelines running through Ukraine. Putin is even using the same excuse for Ukraine that Hitler did for his initial conquests to reunite ethnic Germans. In this case it's the reunification of ethnic Russians.

China is now waiting for the US to blunder in so they can take Taiwan. If Russia stumbles then China can finally take their Norther Resource Area (AKA Siberia) away from Russia. This isn't as much about Ukraine (though it's very strategic for Russia in terms of controlling ground forces) as it is about further marginalizing the US to change the balance of power world wide.

Russia is playing chess as Putin has always done
China is playing 3D chess now that they have the assets
Biden is still figuring out which colors to put the checkers on the checkerboard: "Let's see is it red on red and black on black?"

My People are kicking Russian Ass, might not be a winning battle, but we will win the war! Don't ever push the Slavic Cossack around, we are crazy and love to fight to the death, Putin is an Idiot, doing what he thinks he can and he will loose big time!

In other news, my family took in two doctors who escaped Kharkov after the second day of fighting and we are hosting them here as long as it takes to Kill Russia and send them back when it's all over. Doctors are awful nice to have around ya know! Wouldn't bother me in the slightest if they decided to stay here in the states, they already speak a little engrish, are more then willing to learn, and contribute to making this a better place, something all those illegals refuse to do!

First, all need to review this video (below) to understand exactly why Russia is doing this. Broker posted this and it truly is the best one I have seen that ties it all together. It does miss one other reason, Russian negative population growth, but other than that is it spot on, the best.
Why Russia is Invading Ukraine - YouTube

I have a different opinion and perspective about what should be done probably from living aboard so many years. It seems people forget that there is only one way to deal with Russians, from a position of strength. Having said that…Yes, I think we should confront Russia directly, physical force.

No, we are not the World’s Policemen. Vietnam was a complete mistake, a waste as was Iraq (Gulf war 1 & 2) and Afghanistan. None of these wars/conflicts had a justification for war just politics, money, oil, sphere of influence, etc… Americans are bled out, burned out, broke and sick of paying the cost for meaningless wars except to keep the elites in power and make the rich richer. I understand it and agree but…this is different, very different. Vietnam and Afghanistan military immediately collapse when we left. This did not happen when we helped the South Koreans (1951-53) and it certainly will not happen if we help the Ukrainians. Our leaders have had us in wars that were unjust, had no victory objectives, and some that the people didn't even want us there. However, this is not the case and is obviously the right thing to do.

The Ukraine is different because there is nothing to be gained by anyone, no wealth, no power, no reason for us to intercede except – it is the right thing to do. This is what truly defines America and its people! Ukraine is a young Democracy struggling to bring freedom to their country based on the will of the people, democratic freedom. They even managed to throw out their corrupt President, Putin’s puppet, and now have a good leader, a President who is making slow but consistent gains. Its people have made their will known that they wish to be part of the international community with a West leaning government…if given the chance.

    But, they are horribly corrupt?
As is the USA. Ukrainians are slowly bringing it under control. Can we say the same? Democracy is not easy, it’s slow, convoluted and confusing as Americans well know.

    What’s to be gain?
Nothing. No gold. No oil (like 1991). No power. Nothing except helping a weaker neighbor stand against a bully. Helping them keep their freedom.

    But, it's not our fight?
It's not? The history of our country shows otherwise. Tons of examples! For example, in 1991, when Kuwait was invaded, and we went to their aid, and invaded (Gulf War #1). Yes, there was oil...so we fought and died for oil, not freedom. Yet, the Kuwaiti people think very well of us as friends and liberators as do the Dutch, French (some of them lol!), etc. We defend freedom. "DE OPPRESSO LIBER" which translates "To Free the Oppressed," this is our Special Forces motto. This is what defines America since its birth.

    But, they got nukes!
Yes, and so do we. Putin is not a mad man and understands exactly what he is doing. He knows the consequences of using any form of nuclear device. I don't advocate invading Russia more like the UN in South Korea in the 1950's, kicking them out of Ukraine.

As you can tell, I feel very strongly about this. I do not like of the idea of putting our men and women in danger but this is what defines America, simply doing what is right, helping those less fortunate, and standing up for them when they cannot do it alone. This is exactly who and what we are, Defenders of Freedom. Exactly what we preach and support around the world. Now, they plea for help, beg for it, a weak country to be swallowed by a strong, vicious one. Did we not promised them protection if they gave up their nuclear weapons? They don’t ask for help, they beg for it and surely will lose their country without it.

I, like most, realize we are no longer the ‘Land of the Free’ but I am certain we remained the ‘Home of the Brave’ but now... I also wonder if we can still call ourselves ‘Defenders of Freedom'…

Anyway, that’s my rant. I don't expect anyone to agree with me. I would feel differently if the Ukrainian people themselves wanted Russia, but this is obviously not the case and are dying for the freedom of their country. I spent all my adult life overseas, spent lots of time in Former Soviet Union countries and interfaced numerous times with true Russians (born in Russia) and ethnic Russians. Hell, I married one and, as such, I speak the language well enough to converse quite well. In short, they are a realistic people and to stop them, you must not only say ‘No’ but be willing to go to the mat with them because – well – if I had to define them, ‘they are realists who practice realpolitik’ (think Bismarck) they do not understand anything else – just strength or a damn good reason not to do what is possible and logical to them as the video shows.

Cant really share, you guys need to dig in to the stories coming out of certain cities, lets just say, there may be some "War Crimes" from the good guys, and this is in part to protect some good folks from getting caught up in all that! War is War, doctors are very important in providing care, but they have become targets of the Russians, in part because of things that allegedly have taken place, for their safety, they have been sent here for the time being, and at some point they can decide if they want to return or stay here!
