S&W M&P EZ 9 For Women

Discussion in 'Firearms' started by justiniwhicker, Jan 28, 2022.

  1. I was looking for a 9mm handgun for my sister. One of my friend suggest me S&W M&P EZ 9. He told me that this one is the best handgun for women. Anyone have any experience with it?

No this one, but the normal Shield, which is kinda stiff for weak hands. There are tons of videos on u-tube that show lots of tips and tricks for the ladies that really make things easier and opens the door to other, often times better pistols. My wife hates "Girl Guns" but suffers "surgeons hands," and after watching a number of videos, and me showing her all the tricks I know, she started carrying an officers size 1911 in 9 mm and it's twin in .45, and she has no issues with them at all! She also has a really sweet Beretta Brigadier which is basically the 92 only the officers length, she is absolutely deadly with it and can work the controls and run the slide like a pro!

Mrs. T5R packs a pair of 1911s in .45, one in her truck and one on her person. A bit of a struggle with the first one she bought but over about 6 months of regular shooting trained herself to it and became very accurate with it. Where she struggles are the bigger rifles. LOL one of my .300WM does not have the best cushion on the butt and one shot from it a few years ago left her shoulder black and blue. She also does not like the weight of my Galils thus I started buying the ARs She particularly likes the STAG AR-15s. Weight and Size are factors but the recoil is the big one for most of the women I know. We have a few shops around that not only let you shoot it before you buy it but encourage you to shoot it on their range out back before you buy it. If you have one of those around, they are great for helping less experienced customers select the proper weapons for the individual. Mrs. T5R Refuses to own one of the girl guns in particular the pink ones LOL.

Don't pick it out for her. Take her to one or preferably more gun stores that has at least one female behind the counter and get out of the way. Listen for stupidity, but outside of that keep quiet.

I did this with Mrs. 3M at two different places. The best, surprisingly was a Fred Meyers (Kroger) that has a sporting goods section. They had not one but two female staff that helped her and did a great job. I was amused that many things I had told her that never sunk in now all of the sudden got through and she spent the next few days educating me on those very topics.

Ultimately she picked the one that fit her hand the best and also had the slide that was easiest for her to rack.

The BEST person to pick out a FireArm for that person, is that person His or Her self.... See what fits her hand, when she holds it, FIRST, then work on what feels to her like a "Well Worn Glove in her hand... Then see how well she can operate the action, and finally "Point and Shoot" it... AlaskaChick, for example, started out with a small .380ACP Lamma, and then graduated to my Belgian Browning HighPower in 9MM...She had a bit of trouble with the Slide, but only for about an hour... Then to get my HiPower back, I had to buy her a Dan Wessen Stainless .357 Mag PistolPak... That cured the slide issue permanently, and that is what she has carried ever since... 2" Barrel fitted for CCW, and 8" Barrel, the rest of the time...The other barrels are kept for reserve should a Ballistic Test be required... For new shooter, female, small hands, I say stick with a 380. Small 9s can be real snappy and uncomfortable to shoot.

The S&W M&P EZ 9 really is the easiest and smoothest semi-auto out there to rack. I have no idea how it will shoot or if it is fussy about ammo or etc. but for simply racking the firearm it's SUPER easy. I had a look at one at local gun store and was totally surprised as this gun should fill the niche for many a person with small and/or weaker hands. My wife has extremely small hands and has difficulty charging the Glock 19 but did the EZ 9 like a pro. I would suggest taking your wife there and letting her try it. I think this firearm will become a go-to for many of those people with weak hands.

My wife and I both carry 9mm Shields. Believe it or not the Shield is more comfortable to shoot than the full size M&P 9mm. I think that even though it's lighter the barrel is much lower so the lesser leverage against the grip reduces felt recoil.

The Detonics Pocket 9 I had before that was a bear. The only thing worse than shooting it was tearing it down for cleaning and then putting it back together.

I use mag loaders for everything these days. Makes the job so much easier, and for any female that wears nails it's pretty much a necessity.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

I have the S&W 9mm Shield as a backup for my Glock 21. It's fine. Feels a little small to me but I grew up watching a lot of Clint Eastwood movies so that prob has a lot to do with that.

If you rock a Glock, might give the G-43 a looksee, most everyone i know who Knows anything love this pistol! I'm not really a Glock guy, but if I was, this would be my fav carry piece!

Personally, I carry a Double stack 1911 full size in 10 mm auto, it offers the very best in capacity and a seriously potent chambering, and it is thinner in the grip as well as the slide, makes for a awesome carry rig!

I have a Glock 43 and it's as good as its big brothers and sisters. It's a single stack and great as a secondary and have an +2 extended mag for it. I haven't looked at the 43X which certainly is worth a look.

I know many don't like Glocks, plastic guns, whatever but for me a firearm needs to be reliable, reliable and reliable and easy to maintain. The Glock does everything well, eats any ammo I feed it, super easy to maintain, never fails to go bang and hits what I aim at. That's enough for me. I fully admit there are probably better pistols out there but the Glock does everything I want and need so I'm sticking with it until such a time something is developed that surpasses it. Star Trek Laser?

I'm the exact opposite, a 1911 was my very first firearm purchase way Way back. That pistol never ever failed me. In 88, I was issued a M-1911 as my sidearm, I put thousands of rounds through it with zero issues that were not caused by me, the shooter. Around 1993 we were issued the M-9 and it did very well, but was a little finiky, we found that, just like the M-1911, you ran it dry and it would likely never fail! All these years later and I still run the 1911's, call it nostalgia, call it trust, but I'm married to that system, and with the few I run, I would trust them each and every single time. Are there other systems that are better, honestly, NO! Nobody has designed or built anything better since, only improved existing designs, and with the advent of the double stack frame for the 1911, it answers every need you could ever demand of it, except maybe weight, and I don't find it a issue at all, but then again, I have been carrying one near constantly the last 38 years of so! I bought a G-20 way back when they had just come out, it was really the only option that could take the newer 10mm auto ammo, and while it did it's job, it is NOT a nice or very comfortable pistol to carry! I'm an old grizzly bear these days, set firmly in my ways, ways that have been proven beyond all question, and like you, not going to change! It helps that pretty early on in my professional life I became proficient at shooting, though it seemed to have required a lot more training then others, but I got to where it was not the gun, but entirely me that was lethal, the gun was just the tool that extended my reach beyond arms length!

I tell folks " Find what works for YOU, and then spend a small fortune training to use it well" and that's always the right answer to the question of which gun should I get! Some folks do well with the Glock series, some dont, and some like me it doesn't even matter!
