If you have not had a shingles shot, get one. This is no fun at 71. 99% of people my age had chickenpox as children and therefore have the virus that causes shingles dormant in their body until one day, for no reason at all, it explodes into this in two days. I have never had anything hurt as bad and have temporarily lost some vision in that eye. It’s only on the top right quarter of my head. You can clearly see the dividing line. I’ve had it for a month. What you see is all gone but the nerve pain, blurred vision and headaches are constant and may never go completely away.
Very sorry to hear that Sirs. I had a young buddy 30-35 yo dude who also got it from Stress , Fooling around with woman and married with kids coming is what he told me . Sloth
I sure hate to hear that ,,, I hope you heal up soon ,, it seems like you hear about shingles a lot more these days than you used to ,, why is that ya reckon ??? I've been procrastinating on getting the shingles shot. I think I got the "Coof" Sunday before Thanksgiving,,, laid in bed for 3-4 days sleeping in and out of consciousness,,, but I was pretty much in bed for 2 weeks,,, I ate 1 spoonful of jello in 2 weeks ,,,drank water tho ,, still haven’t fully recovered,,,,, but was going to get it as soon as I get over this crap . But I've got knee surgeries coming up ,, not sure if I need it before that starts ,,, damn this getting old sucks . I will say ,, tonight is the 1st time I've had a few shots of likker since sunday before Thanksgiving,, should have been drinking through the Coof ,, might have cleared up in a day or 2.
Brother had it bad just a few weeks after his second baby was born, it was bad! Knocked him in his ass for 3 months he was only 40 at the time and in good health, it's no joke and will really work you over!
Do only ONE shot or fixer at a time , LET your body figure and fix things Is what I have only done . Im old as well , same as @T. Riley
I guess I am lucky. It doesn't bother me like. Most people. First time I had it I had pain for a couple of days and I would consider the rash annoying. Second time I didn't even realize until a nurse pointed it out. Very light rash and minor headache.(over a thousand nurses where I work)
Grandpa had that crap and looked like something from a horror movie for several months on half his body..... Know this because he spent most of his time in only his underwear because he said it hurt to bad to wear clothes. That was enough to make me a believer in the vaccine for it. Got the first shot 2 Months ago and need to get back in and get the second. I think most of us in our 50s had the Chicken Pox as well, LOL I know I did, with a measles and Mumps chaser. Think I read in the vaccine literature they gave me with the first shot that the vaccine is like 80% effective so hopefully I won't be in the 20%. Zero interest in going through that agony. And on a side note the Shingles shot left me feeling like a mule kicked me in the left arm for 3 days after
VA said I needed em so got em... both shots... IIRC the first batch of said vaccine for some folks actually gave em that... claim was this latest batch was way safer???
Definitely going to check my medical history for the shot. I thought I had it, but I'm going to make damn sure. Hoping for a speedy recovery to the lingering issues and thank you for the warning!
I'm in the same boat,, no one left alive to tell me ,, and any records are long gone . I guess it may be better to get it than not. But I ain't getting that Coof jab.
My partner had them over a year ago since the rash cleared up but she still has this subdural itching and it torments her in her sleep. I think maybe the nerves never repair themselves.
I know several folks who got Shingles and in watching them suffer, I got the shot... pronto! The nerve damage can be debilitating for a lifetime.
If you got the old single shot version you should really get the new 2 shot version MUCH more effective than the old one shot version by about 2.5X according to the literature I got.
I got mine two years ago, I did the two shot version as that's what my doctor recommended to me, I don't want to go through what my bro did, that was awful! Wife got her first shot this year back in Sept. and will get her second later in the spring! No, we will not be getting the Fauxie Ouchie!
