I thought this was going to be a comedy piece, but it makes some interesting points. And the statistics are eye opening. I've always been more of a long haired hippy, biker type but I suppose I fit into the broader category. I remember when I quit school in the 10th grade to start my Oilfield career. A teacher told me "you can quit school but you dont have to quit learning." I took that to heart. I'm a long haired southern accented, catfish noodling, deer hunting, God and guns redneck but I have a Mensa certified IQ in the "Gifted" range. 3 points shy of genius level which is higher than the average college graduate and higher than most people with advanced degrees, Doctors, Lawyers and College professors.
Contrary to the media stereotype, Redneck does not mean uneducated, uninformed, low class hick.

More and more my experience is that the folks with the Red Neck Mentality are getting to be the only Civil people left in Civilization.

Intersesting where the most military recruits comes from ==Redneck south --Patriots

"According to the U.S. Department of Defense's most recent Population Representation in the Military Services report: Almost 44 percent of all military recruits came from the South. That's despite the region having only about 36 percent of the nation's relevant population."
Maybe it's time to reinstate the draft so there is an equal representation from across the country in the military seems these liberal states are getting a free ride.

I've been called a redneck all my life ,, fishing, hunting , backwoods living ,, don't do well in the big cities ,, can't stand it.
Military wise ,,, Johnbb ,, I understand your point about the draft ,, but ,, if they don't want to be there ,, don't force them ,,, I served in the early 80s ,, I served a few that weren't worth spit ,,, and they volunteered. I think a few may turn out ok ,, but most may just bring down morale.

I was drafted (Vietnam) it did me a world of good, There are far to many in todays society that need the discipline to grow up. Need to go back to the old style bootcamp and not todays woke touchy feely BS. Those that did conform were slapped around -amazing how quick they got with the program. Those that did not went to a special group for training --talk was you didn't want to go there.

I was in right after the draft was ended. Yeah, I volunteered to be abused. LOL! However, in my opinion and from what I saw, a draft is a very bad idea. A professional military has proven to be better bang for the buck and certainly less problematic.

I suppose one could make the argument that without the draft, Stalin's Soviet Union would not have held off the German invasion. In fact, a Army historian, actually makes this claim and backs it up with facts because Germany was stifled due to the Versailles Treaty and replacements took months to train while the Soviet Union took prior draftees and threw them into the fray already knowing the basics of military training and life. The USA was simply lucky that we had two oceans protecting us giving us the time to train armies and that the technology of the time couldn't hit our homeland. Nevertheless, the possibility of again fighting a WW2 type war are very, very slim. A war of that scale will be fought and finished before industrial might can be brought to the fight and certainly we'll not be allowed the time to prepare which is one more reason I support a professional military over a draft.

Hell, I would go one step further and only give full citizenship to those that volunteer for 4 years in the military. Full citizenship meaning the right to vote and the right to hold elected office - no exceptions and it has to be military service. I know that sounds horrid but people take the right for granted not realizing or not caring it has been paid for in blood.
