So far the best thing for covering up the smell is stinky old cotton Rayo wick and Mother's Mag Wheel Polish.

    This is a pleasant distraction.

The smell is in your nose. Try a Neti Pot.

Most people here clean out their freezers after its been sitting there smelling sweet and rotten after the good old hurricane's we are famous for.
    First off, You refreeze it
Second thing is to remove the frozen glob and haul it off fast fast,
Third, clean it as best you can with what ever you have on hand like simple green
Forth open it up to air out a day or two
Now comes the coffee, Open a fresh pack and pour it in bowls
Close the door and turn on the freezer.
Then you open the door the next day and stir the coffee grounds around.
Repeat as necessary until the funk is next to nothing
Don't make coffee with the grinds what ever you do, Unless the maw-in-law is coming over to mooch coffee !

I did the refreeze and pry out. Garbage went out in the morning, but neighbors probably still think I was disposing of a body. (She was out of town)

I'll let That Woman deal with freshening up the freezer. I washed it down with half a gallon of vinegar and dried it out. Maybe a good use for the oldest storage coffee. Thanks for the tip. I will pass it along.

Update:. Hands still stink. It's fading, but my hopes of removing it completely in one step are fading as well. The best I can do seems to be to mask it for a few hours. Toothpaste is easiest to find for this. Old canvas, kerosene and metal polish are so nostalgic for me that I was actually happy to be all stinky last night.

3-4 days and the worst of it should be gone. The memory never fades.

Yep coffee absorbs odors better than baking soda or charcoal just cost a lot more :)

Need to pull the pics off the old computer sometime of when the first on farm store burned after lightning hit a half dead tree next to it and threw burning stuff all over and under it. Most notable was the 3,000 pounds of catfish, 10,000 pounds of pork, 6,000 pounds of beef and 7000 pounds of whole chickens that were in the freezers that ended up being 1/3 burned 2/3 rotting stench on 90 degree plus days. After 20 hours of getting that dumped in the EPA Approved pit of death I dug and had to put a liner in.......... That reek had absorbed into my hair and every pore in my skin. I ended up sticking ear plugs in my nose, just so I didn't have to smell myself. Still could taste it on the tongue though it was that bad. Dead Rancid turning to goo Chicken was tied with the dead rotten turning to goo catfish were tied for WORST PLACE in the sheer rotten stench contest. Prick from the EPA wanted it all hand loaded into the tractor bucket to inspect the bucket of stench before following me to pit of death to make sure I was dumping it properly making the nightmare job take about 15 hours longer than it had to.......... Noooooooooo couldnt just push the stink into the big tractor bucket with the little tractor bucket and be done with it in 4-5 hours! Then had to ensure I had exactly 4' of dirt covering it the the 4" pvc pipes properly spaced to vent the gasses out. Still stink coming from those pipes 11 years later.

Decided if anything ever burned here again that the fire department would not be invited to the party, thus they could not call the EPA to crash the party.

Song is from Street Survivors album. Don't know about the changes but might have to do with the "greatest hits" thing???

You could be right about the greatest hits thing ,,didn't think about that. I've got the Street Survisors album ,, I kinda quit following the band after the Rossington Collins band quit . Never cared much for Johnny Van Zant ,, just wasn't the same . Thanks for the input .
