Just because someone does not want a covid shot does not make them antivax. I have had many vaccines courtesy of uncle sugar. Ended up with bell’s palsy after the last one they gave me pre covid. So, I am sitting this one out. This virus isn’t bad for healthy people in my demographic. I’ve already had it without issues. They can keep their shot. Understand that there are many reasons why people would not want them. There are also reasons why people that wanted the shot got the shot. Both opinions are equally valid.

 

These protesters are not simply folk who are opting out of vaccination...they are undermining public health efforts to afford protection to the broader community, and undermining the protection of segments of the community who, for various medical reasons (due to being immuno-compromised such as cancer patients undergoing chemo et al) rely on others not to spread the infection.

The anecdotal argument that 'contracting Covid-19 didn't affect me adversely' is all very well for the personal circumstances of the the individual making the claim...but is that person's individual experience representative of the population as a whole?

Although some small proportion of the vaccinated experience a 'break-through' infection, the larger proportion of new infections have occurred in that portion of the general population who are unvaccinated.

Honestly. I suspect that news about Australia to the US is just as spun and inaccurate as the reverse. That said I'm going to keep my pie hole shut where criticism of Australia/Australians is concerned. Covid-19 and the behaviour of individuals and the different segments of society reacting to it, comes close to the population of Oran, described in Albert Camus's novel 'La Peste'. La Peste is a prescient work of fiction, which attempts to describe the human condition when living through existential danger and fear...presently living through the Covid-19 world pandemic, I think that Camus nailed it!

People who are immunocompromised can die of ANYTHING even the normal flu, common cold, simple infection etc. we as a society have been dealing with that fact for a long time. However, this is the first time we have people suggesting forced vaccination of the entire population in order to save people that might be beyond saving anyway. If you are immunocompromised stay home and stay safe. If you have to go out wear n95 masks. I refuse to accept that we are putting perfectly healthy people at risk by forcing this vaccine to save others who already have serious issues. Who gets to make that decision, you? The gov? No way. Do NOT bring up smallpox because that is comparing apples to oranges. Smallpox has a very high fatality rate. Covid does not.

 

…….that is one of my local supermarkets !! I actually think that it was an escaped pet as it was pretty docile. Though a Carpet Python in winter would not be too spicy anyway.
