I got a hunting rifle (30-06 mossberg 100 ATR) and a NV monocular and finished the hunter course mandatory in my state.
So now I can hunt without breaking any rules.
Where is a good place to get 30-06 ammo?

We made up a little for the past couple weeks. This week was mainly food stuffs put into storage. We added brown sugar, confectioner's sugar, salt, baking powder and baking soda, my wife bakes a bit. Also added 5 boxes of mashed potatos, whole grain spaghetti, a pack of dry tortellini and spaghetti sauce with meat. We are trying to make sure we aren't missing critical parts of meals, previously we had spaghetti but nothing to put on it. The miscellaneous foods are tomato soup, canned veggies, peanut butter, and strawberry preserves.

Finally, we added a pound each of pintos, red beans and black beans, we are adjusting our diets to include more dried products like beans and rice. As we find a recipe we want to try we buy an extra pound or 2 of the bean to put into storage. I know it is a lot cheaper to buy in bulk, but we want to try out the recipes first before getting a lot of beans. It also makes sure we have some instorage immediately. Now that we have a couple that we like, we will be getting some in bulk.

I think the change to our diet is the best preparation that we are making. I want to make sure that we are eating the same stuff we want to store. What a difference in price it is to buy beans, rice and spices than it is to buy cans of raviolli. An added benefit is the meals tend to be healthier. It really seems odd to make a meal with no meat in it. But we've made a couple recipes that we really like that have no meat at all.

After many years of thinking about it, I finally took the plunge and bought myself a 40 watt solar panel and 110ah battery. Its the most I could afford.

However it will provide power for a 12 volt cooler (regular fridges and freezers are far too power hungry for my budget) and some additional lighting.

It may not sound a lot, but now I have some refridgeration, it will save me cooking everyday and therefore also saves on fuel (Butane). The battery with proper care should last 10 years. The solar panel 20.

I'm planning on adding to the system when finances allow.

Not my normal time to report in, but just added in 10 gallons of propane. At $3.99 a gallon, that hurt.

Stopped by Ollies and picked up a crank flashlight fairly cheap to add to the car bag. Also picked up a snow shovel for in the car. It came as a handle and a separate blade, just slide them together to use, so stores much better.

Hey Slots, do you make use of propane in your system? If so, you may want to look into a RV fridge. They are very efficient when running on propane. The one in my popup is real small, but they come in much bigger sizes. I think I could run it for half the year on 5 gallons of propane. Don't run it on DC, though, it will drain a battery in no time.

must be a mindreader Fritz, I added two tanks of propane to my supplies. Added a twelve pack of chicken noodle soup from a case lot sale for $4.00, pack of TP, batteries in all sizes, hand crank flash light/cell phone charger, 4x 5gal water storage containers, 5 dehydrated meals, one bottle instant coffee....would hate to have to survive without the caffeine!

Added in some paper towels and TP. Also added more beans, some Stove Top stuffing and a couple cans of fruit. It's coming along. After Christmas we will be clearing off some shelves and going through our stores to make a decent inventory. Santa borrowed some storage space and we need to wait until he can deliver some presents. At that time I think I'll pick up one of the inventory programs.

MbRodge, since you are over in Hawaii, you should pick up some green Kona beans for storage. Green coffee beans have an extremely long shelf life. Then just roast some up. You can even do that in a cast iron fry pan on an open fire.

I went and got another small load of wood (was to wet/mudy to get to where most of the wood was at) and picked up a little bit of leather from the saddle shop to make Tina a new purse for Christmas (she keeps wearing out most of them so figure to make her one where that will be more difficult) and a couple of new holsters for carry.

Now that Christmas is over, we did a decent inventory. We still haven't put together a list of possible meals to determine just how many weeks we have put away. But we do know what we have, and even better, we know we are short on vegetables.

We added some food to the shelves. Added in 10# sugar, another 5# rice and a couple pounds of black beans. Also put up some additional veggies and fruit. For the short term, we put up some ravioli and roast beef hash. Plus some additional TP.

Now we need to figure out just how long our stores would last.

I am trying to get the Dillon progresive working on that 5.56, soon as I can find some cheap bullets. I got a mold, wonder how bad they'd lead my barrel?

Not so much putting more away as determining what needs to be re-evaluated and augmented.

Discovered that first aid basics need to be beefed up a bit. Canned goods need to be (finished) re-stocked - finally rotated through all the old stuff. Have to find a way to store more wheat berries/grains and flour, too. Don't like only having a couple hundred pounds total on hand.

Too soon after Christmas, and it's the last week of the month (and year!). All I did this week was another ten pounds of rice (did some Thai Jasmine Rice this time). A half dozen cans of veggies. A 25-round box of #7.5 Winchester 12gauge shotshells.

I'm assessing the reloading needs for early next year - gotta start ordering again.

Monday is payday - but Insurance rears it's ugly head for both car & bike.

Careful, make sure you are sitting down when you see the prices, don't want you to swoon and hit your head.

Well, added a little bit of food to our supplies. Put a couple more rolls of duct tape. Also came across a real good deal on KI, so put away 800 adult doses. A nuke explosion is down on my list of possible scenarios, but it was a pretty good deal, so I got it. Since it is in glass bottles, I'm still trying to figure out the best way to package it both for storage and for in the car bags.

Finally made a store run, and beefed up my supplies - also tested new-to-me products for future inclusion.
Got six one-pound cans of B&M Brown Bread Raisin flavor - great stuff! Had 7 cans, but needed to try some . . . Good til 2014 on the "Best-by" date!
24 cans of assorted veggies that are 'prepared' - already fixed with salt & seasonings. Had already tried several - got a good variety. Put into two 12-can boxes.
6 more pouches of Zatarain's Ready-to eat Rice - I had used my last few as they were nearing their Use-By dates.
Two one-pound cans of Sea Salt. Various uses for this.
Several more cans of Smoked Herring - I love this stuff! Hard to leave it alone in the preps locker.
Several cans of Sausage Gravy and of Chicken Gravy - great stuff to add to "Beef&Noodles" and "Chicken&Rice" - really fills them out and adds creamyness.
Several cans of PET condensed milk. Lots of good uses - I'm getting reacquainted with using it.
Filled four 5-gallon cans of gas - just before it climbed from $3.09 to $3.15! Also picked up a gallon of 15w-50 Rotella-T dino-oil for the bike. Just did an oil change, so it'll last awhile.

Tried some Armour Dried Beef in the glass jar - not bad, but definitely need rinsing before eating in a sandwich - SALTY! Be good shreaded and cooked in beef broth or gravy.

BIL got me a 25-round box of Winchester 12 gauge #7.5 shells - Good thought - It'll go with the 50-caliber ammo can I already have full of it . . .
    [lolol]

Parents got me a cheapo "Pay as you go" cell phone. I hardly use my home phone as it is, I'll keep this little gadget as an Emergency Comm for my MC roadtrips. I loaded the additional 600 minutes on it - I'm good til June of 2008 - then gotta buy more minutes, whether I used any or not. Heck, they roll-over - it'll be like my sickleave at work - I'll probably end up with so much I'll be giving them away . . .
I paid more for accessories for it than the phone probaly cost . . .

Split and stacked 2 cord of firewood for next year, prepped an area for more raised beds, ordered some Jerusalem Artichoke starts. Cleaned up and prepped area for the greenhouse.
    Good luck

Added more food to the supplies. I also placed my first order for whole wheat. Found we have a Breadbecker coop not too far away. Placed the order and will be able to pick it up in February. Not as convenient as picking it up at a store front, but about the best I've been able to find in my area. Ordered 45# hard red, 45# hard white and 23# rolled oats all in 6 gallon buckets. The wheat comes out to $.71 a pound but that includes the bucket and the time it takes to package.
