Old pattern, worked so well for the Romans, bread and circus and we will hire someone else to feed us and defend us. But then the Roman Empire is no more, the barbarians looted it well, but basically said, "That's your problem and left". But of course we have new and improved genetically modified snakes and the new improved snake oil is going to cure everything this time.

Keep them uneducated, unemployable, unemployed and totally dependent upon government for their clothing, food, housing and medical expenses... And proclaim that is all the other political party that is to blame.

This is the most flat out racist thing to have come out of OryGun in forever. Black and Brown kids are basically being told that they are incapable of achieving anything, so were not going to require anything of them now! So much for equity now, we basically told them they are not worth the effort! And lets not forget, all the little White and Asian kids who work their asses off to graduate with honors so they can get into collage and make something of them selves! With no more requirement's, how is that gonna work!

At this point, what good is it sending kids to school, if they are no longer required to actually learn anything, then the schools are just a over blown babysitting service that we all pay for!

New mexico and Mississippi are not going to give up their 49th and 50th spots in education to the likes of Oregon.

So I guess now here in OR when someone applies for a job and say they have a HS diploma you're going to have to give them a basic skills test to see if they even deserved it. If you're to stupid to not even graduate HS the right way then people need to know it. I didn't care that much about HS but made it through the right way, college was a completely different attitude.

Truly the end of this country, Thomas Jefferson pushed for public education on the premiss an educated population was a population that could be informed to vote. I guess now that we have stolen elections what does it matter. They tried dumbing down the education system so these (won't print what I am thinking) ____ could pass and make the supposed educators look good and even that didn't work. Now they don't have any standards. I can see it now when they apply for a job --so can you read --no can you do basic math-no can you write--No so what can you do-- dude I can text. What a country we have become

Our youngest attended the "best" high school in town (out of five) for all of a day and a half back in the late nineties. She walked home five miles after being bullied by some girls she'd been friends with in middle school the year before. She chose to be home-schooled the rest of that school year, then enrolled at the adult high school program at the community college the next year when she was old enough. She didn't bother with doing the testing to get credit for the home school year, and still graduated with a real high school diploma in one year at the age of fifteen. Four years of high school education in one year. Yeah, high school nowadays is just a very expensive babysitting service.

Oh, she started college that next fall at the ripe old age of sixteen. She's now an architect.

Another anecdote - about 1983 I had a friend offer me a Winchester Model 94 and several boxes of once fired brass. It was a decent price, and I bought it, but the relevant part of the story is that when he wrote the description of what he was offering he wrote "shels", and knowing he'd probably misspelled something he said "Don't blame me, I went to W__________." I remembered that a few years later when a 20ish kid came in and asked for an application where I was working. I gave him one, and watched as he took it out to the car and filled it out with the help of several friends. He brought it back, then left, and when I looked it over I saw numerous misspellings on the first page. Opened it up to the education section. Yep. He graduated from W__________.

And these are from the 80s and 90s. It's only gone downhill since!

Looks like the beginning of the movie "Idiocracy".
It was a joke when they made it.

I don't see the problem with this at all...
I mean, everybody has a smartphone now and Google is only one press of the button away. You can even speak into the phone if you're too lazy. Of course, far too many cannot even speak properly, so perhaps they will have to make the AI a little more sensitive to gibberish. You know, because educating people isn't the way to go any more.

Yet another comment on dumbing down the graduates.

The world we live in | Notes From The Bunker

Good point, the government makes you hire them, the system does not educate them to the point that they can do the work, it also doesn't create any sense of a work ethic, showing up on time, etc, and the government will not let you fire them without "just cause". There is a whole legal industry that specializes in extorting money from employers if they either do not hire unqualified minorities or try to terminate them if they can not or will not do their jobs. Easiest way around it is to either hire "independent contractors" and sub out the job or to use a temp staffing agency as a vetting tool. Either system places the average person looking for a job at a severe disadvantage.
