I am sixty-five years old and have become very reclusive. I do not use telephones unless it is to coordinate something that absolutely requires my participation. I do not watch television, as it is so biased and filled with buy this and buy that because WESAYSO. My last community has fallen into an abyss, with age, responsibility and a dire forecast pre-empting nightly fires with music, drinks, and social exchange.. I always performed music, solo, in a duet, or in a band but the crowds have dwindled to a few annoying football fans and hard-core drunks. Our local watering hole was destroyed by Hurricane Sally and may never recover. The pandemic has placed barriers between people that once were happy to see one another.
I grew up with neighborhood with family barbeques, home-made ice cream or sliced watermelon in the evenings, friendly shooting competition in the gully behind our house, fireworks on holidays, Friday night Hoot-nannies or jam sessions. There was always a pickup game of soft-ball, basketball, or Kick the Can. My house, with swimming pool, recording studio and BBQ pit was an evening delight with friends dropping by to visit and enjoy the evening. I moved onto a shanty-boat on the St. Johns River and there was always the porch crowd at the marina gathered for drinks and sharing conversation. The topics would rang from repairing a spar, sailing the lesser Antilles, sports, music, or who was sleeping with who. The front deck on my shanty-boat hosted many fish fries and impromptu concerts. Folks pitched in and helped when your boat went to the hill for maintenance and if there was a sale somewhere on necessary items, enough would be bought to share with other boat people.
My pistol club would host picnics or parties and matches every weekend. Many of us would pool resources and travel to State, Regional, and National matches, sharing Motel expenses and fuel, shooting together as a squad and bring home a surprisingly large number of trophys. Often, we would bring thousands of primers and bottles of powder back to share from the matches because there were always vendors there with great prices.
People from our Church community would drop by to check on us, maybe invite us to supper next week. Co-workers would stop by and help replace a differential on your pick-up or maybe just to bitch a bit about who wasn't doing their share. We'd plan a hunt for quail, rabbits, squirrels, maybe deer and extra game was often dropped by to someone that wasn't able to get out much.
We wrote actual letters and sent post cards to friends and family when apart. Home-coming was always an occasion. The whole extended family would gather at Grand-ma's when I would return from where-ever my work took me. We would have feasts and the children would play, cousins would discover the delights of prepubescent exploration, parents would just shake their heads and say "Boys will be boys". Knees would be skinned, arms broken, and mischief was responded to according to the intent, if it were malicious then you'd be in for an ass-whipping, otherwise, you'd be made to pay for any real damage done and be resound in the knowledge that sooner or later what goes around, comes around.
May of us here are old and remember community. We tried to incorporate the use of social media in a common cause and many of us actually met and gathered for places and events and became real friends. I have ridden my motorcycle hundreds of miles to meet with groups having a weekend camping social or to Knob Creek for the machine gun shoot. I guess those days are gone now, probably wouldn't recognize anyone behind their mask anyway. I don't do fist-bumps, I shake hands and exchange hugs. This shows my hands are free from weapons and is a traditional greeting among friends. This fist-bumping shit is sort of niggerish and annoying. Present your fist to me and my first conditioned response is defensive.
We live in an instant domain, add data and here we are. Social media, media controlled by agenda, hate, segregation, and disruption of family and community are necessary for population control. Everyone is offended by everyone else. Opinion different than the agenda is met with extreme abuse. There is no real accountability, kill a bunch of people and they'll blame guns, not just yours, but all of them, and you, the murderer, just become a side-line. Well, unless the bunch of people you kill include a negro or two, then you get front page billing as a racist. We have destroyed Unity and Community by necessity. The right to swing your arm ends in the immediate air-space of the next person's nose and crowded areas make it difficult to do that so we make it illegal to swing your arm. Words are carefully chosen so as not to offend anyone, a benevolent idea with no practical application. you offend someone by just existing.
We are now being subjected to Covid-Passports that will determine where we can go, where we can dine, where we can gather. Remember how the Social Security card was guaranteed to have only one purpose and how easily is soon became requisite to obtain a bank account or make a significant purchase? Next, we will see a score system enacted to determine who can travel where, purchase what, or express ideas freely. This is already happening, it is the status-quo in China and coming to a place near you soon. They already collect the data from your social media, from your purchases, from you web-history, from your blogs, from government records, everywhere and you can't do a damned thing to prevent it. Welcome to the Ant Farm, boys and girls.

Very good post, I think that most of us have found that we can not go home to the old way of life again. What bothers me is it is not just fading away, it is being actively destroyed and I find no comfort in the system that is replacing it.

I've been waiting for the societies of the world to unravel my entire life, at times with excitement and fascination. Do try to bear in mind that I've also never found any society to be worthy of our potential in the first place. To me, too many people have been stagnant, even to the point of being repulsive to an extent. That's not to say that I haven't met some fantastic people in this existence, because I have had this fortune. However, the older I become, the easier I seem to be able to recognize the negative aspects of life. I think it's because I am tired, even bored with humanity. I'm not particularly bored with the rest of the universe, though. I do that, compare our position to the whole of the cosmos to help gain perspective. To think, we are, as a species, seemingly insignificant in relation to the endlessness of space; all of humanity from start to finish is only a blink of an eye in the lifespan of our star, and even less to the entirety of everything. And yet, even with this very brief life, we fight with vigorous contempt to rival a supernova and love with the fullness of passion that would challenge the heat of the sun in scope. We do have so many gifts, each of us has the means to do so much more, to inspire and create far more than we have been led to believe. Ultimately, we are the right people in this time because we are here, like it or not. And to call it interesting would be an understatement.

We are not the clothes we wear or the political party we defend. We are not even close to knowing what we are or why we are here. But, here we are, nevertheless in this very brief moment amidst the endless sea of stars in an ever-expanding universe which will go on with or without us for infinity.

 Wow, that is quite some history you’ve got there! Your remarks are outstanding, too, simply outstanding! I have taken the liberty of editing your comments because: (1) I used to write and edit things for a living, and (2) I think your remarks deserve to be preserved in a somewhat improved form. (If I have offended you then I apologize; but, otherwise, please feel free to copy and use whatever you might find useful above.)

The reality is that I, personally, couldn’t agree with you more! I, myself, am now 78 years old; and, yes, I do feel ‘the weight’ of those years, resting heavily upon my shoulders! Looking back from where I am today: I have lived a long, occasionally arduous, and occasionally very difficult and dangerous life.

In certain ways I should no longer be here, but I am; and, to my surprise, I have outlived the natural lifespans of my father and both of my grandfathers by, at a minimum, more than 5 years! (But they didn’t have a pacemaker or access to the modern medical technology and medicines that I’ve been able to take advantage of.)

I won’t say that I have become a religious man; instead I would say that I was born: prescient, psychic, and deeply religious. I knew, almost immediately, that there was a God; and I knew, while I was still nursing on my mother’s breast, that I had lived before. The increasing years of my life have only added to and deepened these early spiritual insights of my ongoing existence.

Here, from my own perspective of long–stated (and longstanding) biblical truths, is how I see what is happening in the world, today, and exactly where mankind is presently located on the never-ending helix of time:

Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.” (Revelation 12:12)

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of themselves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, and without natural affection, lacking self-control, false accusers, headstrong, fierce, and unrelenting despisers of those who would be good.

Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having various forms of godly devotion, but ultimately denying the power thereof.

From men such as these turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women who are laden with sins, and obsessed with diverse lusts, Such men are ever-learning, but never able to come to an accurate knowledge of God’s most sacred truths.” (II Timothy 3:1-7)

Consequently, I do not become overly upset by all of the social and moral discrepancies which are occurring all around and on every side. Neither does it particularly disturb me when one of this nation’s leading politicians passes a remark in Congress saying,

The Bible?” “The Bible is an ‘antique book’ whose quaint stories are no longer relevant to the modern times in which we live.” And who will ever forget former President Barack Obama’s infamous 2008 San Francisco speech, “You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them.” “And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

You know, throughout most of my life I have been shocked—shocked to the point of being personally horrified—by the overt cruelty and unsympathetic brutality of Almighty God’s divine judgments as these onerous pronouncements are consistently expressed throughout all of the ‘end times’ allusions and prophesies in the Holy Bible.

However, today, and after witnessing the myriad news events of my ongoing life, do you know what: When the Holy Bible, this so-called ‘antique book’, states established historical truths like,

They cried, but there was none to save them—Even unto The Lord, Himself, but He did not answer them.” (Psalm 18:41)

Then shall they call unto Me, but I will not answer; they shall seek Me early, but they shall not find Me.” (Proverbs 1:28)

I love those who love Me, and those who seek Me early shall find Me.” (Proverbs 8:17)

Herewith, every insightful (spiritually cognizant) reader should realize that the historical validity of these divinely inspired statements has ALREADY been established—Established! These divinely inspired pronouncements are, demonstrably, unequivocally true!

If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. And He said unto them: Take heed what ye hear, for with what measure ye mete out, it shall be measured again unto you; and unto you who are willing to hear, even more shall be given. For to him that hath, more shall be given, and to him that hath not, from him shall be taken away even that little which he hath.” (Mark 4:23-25)

I do NOT expect all men (I would daresay most men) to agree; but, to my own heart and mind, this is an accurate explanation of the present badly confused, morally obtuse, and ethically inured times in which we are presently living.

What is more, these events are going to continue to get worse, and worse, and worse until, finally, there will be a brief joyful respite brought about by the alluring introduction of the physical antichrist, himself, immediately before ALL HELL literally bursts forth upon this earth!

Now, nobody can honestly say that I did not warn him! ;)

Thanks, WESAYSO is a noun and was the name of the government sponsored News Corporation in the Jim Henson video series "Dinosaur's" The Sinclaire (as in Sinclaire Oil) family of dinosaurs lived and worked in a paradox of our present day life.
