A helmet has always been a good idea....

I have four war helmets....Two modern Kevlar helmets, an American M1 tin pot, and my pride and joy... a vintage 1956 Brit paratrooper's tin pot.

In Chello's case I think that would be al-you-mini-um as opposed to al-loom-in-um?

Unless collecting helmets is your "thing" I'd not want an olde tymee miltary brain bucket. Has to be there are better choices for whatever else you might have in mind that needs a gourd guard. Maybe a miner's or similar bump cap?
Granted, these won't withstand a sack of concrete from 10 feet up, but could save a sore scalp from running into a tree branch.

I like the helmet and armor that guy from the movie Lost in Space wore battling the spiders.

ALLLLLLLL kinds of good practical reasons to have a helmet and helmets >>> one type of helmet isn't necessarily good & practical for all the possibilities ...

I'm a huge advocate of family-wide helmets for tornado country - kids have an athletic helmet or for biking? - could save their life ....
used garage sale construction helmets are super cheap - not only a good bet during a tornado alert but you'll need one for sure in a tornado recovery scenario ...

a modern kevlar isn't the worst prep - it's one of those tangent items that should be on the loooong list after your Beenie Weenie needs are met - not advocating or encouraging any militia & combat foolishness for most of us - but things are forced on us and there's a need for sure to be prepped - might be as simple as deflecting a thrown rock while standing guard at a neighborhood blockade ....

I once had a helmet for a WWII bomber, it was leather and the only padding was over the ears but had nothing over the top of the head but leather.
I have worn a lot of different helmets through the years job to job, I thought early rock climbing helmets were cool.

No more MICH helmets for me. I have a tower climbing helmet that I use when in tight spaces but I think if I would have been in DC that day I would have worn my full face motorcycle helmet. I hit a car on my motorcycle once, was thrown onto the trunk as my femur snapped and went under the bumper. The trunk smashed the face shield and the helmet cracked in a nice Y pattern when I hit the pavement. No head injuries. Without it I'd be a memory.
So yeah, in a situation that calls for a helmet, where someone may wish to smash my pumpkin, I just casually don my EXO full face and pretend I rode in on two wheels.

I just saw a new bicycle helmet with a face shield I thought was intriguing.
