I grew up with single shot shotguns with spur hammers that had a half-cock notch. I have met plenty of folks who are terrified of holding the hammer back, pulling the trigger and lowering the hammer to a safe position. Newer H&R/NEF actions have a transfer bar and rebounding hammer. Yes, they have no unnecessary cross-bolt safety or other do-dads. Same two safeties as most single actions with spur hammers have always had. Half-cock/transfer bar and trigger. If you walk around with the hammer cocked and bump the trigger it will fire. That's YOUR malfunction, not the firearm design.

This video explains how it works if you can't visualize it.

purposely stocking like that is stupid as hell - but you run into strange stuff >>> years ago I passed up like 10 boxes of factory .303 ammo at a local garage sale - could have got it cheap enough - but then it was the hassle of doing something with it - only a handful of .303 carbines in the entire multi-state area ...

Yep I still see 28ga shells regularly at the walmart and gun stores. It's the only ammo I have seen there for the last month.
And that's why 28ga is bad ass. It's just rare enough to where you likely don't know anyone who has one, but some how just common enough for all the stores to feel obligated to carry it.
    That's 28 gauges super power.

I have a 28ga they are between 410 and. 20 gauges. They shoot and pattern like a 20. The other neet trick is you can cut just the crimp off a loaded round dump out the shot then push into the wad a 250 to 350 gr 44 cal bullet

when skeet was a lot more popular you'd see more 28g and 20g >>> as a kid I used to get tons of 20g hulls for reloading from the skeet ranges - plenty of beautiful double barrels around ...
