Here in the bight. It's -3F, wind NW@9mph, R.H. 79%, D.P. -8F, W.C.-19F. Grand Island is -26F. BRRRRRR.
Sitting at 3 this morning. No blackouts up here after all. Some power outages in various towns across the panhandle but due to weather related issues rather than intentional shutdowns. The Mr is home for the second day this week, as the facility decided to close to conserve energy. Which is kinda funny since they're on their own privately maintained grid, but he's not complaining.
How do you yanks thaw out frozen car doors? Wife hauled out about 5 gallons of hot water 16ozs. at a time and poured it around the car door? Why haven't yall invented a car door defroster?
10 degrees here today. We got about 7 inches of powder snow but it's so powdery that some places there are drifts over 2 feet. First real snow of the year in the SE Mitten. easy shoveling. I hate the wet snow it's as heavy as hell. this stuff, mostly push the shovel rapidly and the wind takes it. Windchill though is probably -10.
It's called a "garage". Heated. preferably. There's also the old trick of putting a 100 watt bulb under the car when ice is coming. Masking tape over the door joints (and key holes, if your wheels are that old) will keep the water out. Remote starting can work, too. Or, go buy a rubber mallet and tap-tap around the edges.
Pssst.....it's called a "garage"....... Oh dang....Merkun beat me to it.....I didn't read down enough before posting.....ahahhahaaaaa
Alaskans coat the rubber seals with KY Jelly, come the first of October, and it lasts till the following May usually... Guess I should put that in @hot diggity ‘s Useful Tricks Post....
Once upon a time I had 2 car garage and then along came a hurricane named Laura and just like that BOOM Camp, utility trailer, camper whipped out All my items that could be salvaged for the time being are.....In the garage My wife mentioned, You need to get this stuff out of the garage so I can park my car inside!!! I'm like, Why don't you kick a man in the balls when He's down on the ground. And that's how the fight started.....
There you go, A man with the tricks, Thanks BT I bought plenty Vaseline when BI-dim was sworn in... We gonna need it.
If you are short of KY and vaseline, hie thee to the nearest NAPA and glom onto a can of spray silly cones. Apply as often as needed on the door seals. (Read the label first, or you may need an annual seal replacement.)
LOL Austin Tx colder than Anchorage Ak. Since we run "non-Green" natgas power, no problems. Something tells me that the Green new Deal is not going to be easy to sell...
Well, the Ice apocalypse has passed and we're finally digging out! What a fluster cluck! Words are fine, but photos tell it better! We are a small community of 230 homes in a mobile home park, there are over a thousand trees here, and about 90% of those trees have some sort of damage, with 70% being sever, enough to need to remove the trees! Close to 70% of the homes in here suffered damage, and about 20% suffered major damage, with 5 homes destroyed! All this was less then 2 inches of ice! My F.I.L. lost his brand new Dodge ( the beauty in the second photo) and he is heart broken over it! That's what insurance is for!!!
