ahh, 'pool noodles' are pipe insulation.... I use them on my 'RV" (Eurovan camper) to protect the paint from our pop-up awning.

We're ready! I lit the pilot-lights on our emergency propane heaters, washed the clothes and dishes, cooked, the car is full of gas, got water, took a bath, new batteries in the flashlights, candles and oil lamps ready, the grills are on stand-by, and the water is dripping. Let 'er rip! The big box store that I work at has been a hoot these pass few days...what with clueless customers wandering about searching for items that are long gone! NO propane, no heaters, no lanterns, no generators, no K-1, no wood pellets, etc. Some people were even buying ELECTRIC heaters...and we are expecting ICE! This is what WE live and prepare for!

This is one of the reasons I actually like ‘not’ having central heating like everyone else around here, we are used to using the stove (coal, peat, wood) to keep warm in the winter..... it runs 24/7 in the colder months (since about end of sept this year) and if the power goes out... well, we pretty much just carry on as usual as far as keeping warm.

I made my own plow. A tow behind version. I rate it about 8 out of 10 however, it only took 5 minutes to construct. I’ve already thought of improvements but in WW it’ll be gone before I know it.

We get snow here but it's rare.
It's 40 right now at 6;45 AM and unlikely to precipitate.
Snow doesn't bother me, I won't even shovel it,
I drive on it and pack it down.
If it does snow I cover my vehicle in plastic and it yields me frost-free windows and easy starting.
If I have to I can chain up and drive all over town. there are no snow plows here so I'd be all on my own for a while.
When we actually get significant snow the trees lose branches, that is how I get some of my firewood. I am one of very few that use wood for heat, a lot of snooty rich people.

Bad ice storm here. Had over 2 inches coating almost everything. Lost power Friday night and no idea when it will be restored other than it should be back up everywhere in ten days

almost a quarter million residences lost power, so upwards of a half million without

-6 here, up from -10. Sun is out, honestly not that much snow on the ground and no wind ATM so it's not bad if you're wearing a coat and gloves. Rabbits are playful and loving the cold. Noticed the floating tank heater had ice along it's edges (on the red floater not on the burners) and a little ice buildup around the edges of the pan but the chickens still have water. They all still look good... egg in the nestbox was frozen solid and split in half, heh. Also it appears that sub-zero temperatures silence my roosters. I haven't heard a peep out of those crowing bastards since last night.

When we bought our place there were some old skool nat gas heaters in the two bathrooms that the inspector said we had to disconnect if we wanted the bank loan for the place. They cut them at the heater and again back where the line came in under the house. Well we reconnected those a month ago, and glad we did. They can crank out some mad heat, no power needed. Also got a dual fuel gennie ready to roll, full tank of gas plus full propane tanks and fuel tanks on the side. Don't really expect issues up this way since everything coming down is dry. It's always the ice that drags down the power lines. I see Houston area is having rolling blackouts now though.

Just talked with my son, lives outside of Austin - no power for the last 12 HRs. Power co gives no clue on when power will be back.

Betcha there has been a run on kerosene heaters....

Xcel telling us expect blackouts 30 min to 1 hr every 8 to 12 hours.

Our wind turbines are running fine and we aren't on the ercot grid. Furthermore we have no issues in the summer when it's 110 for weeks and everyone is running 100% electric full speed. So why, when we all on gas heat and just running blower fans, are we hearing OMG BLACKOUTS!

I run these Cooper Evolutions in the winter time. Makes snow covered roads seem like dry roads.
