Some hints on composting garden waste.

I like the DIY speedy compost drum sifter. :)

And then there's the Roll's Royce compost sifter....

an old manual cement mixer which days of mixing cement are over, could be adapted to the same purpose.

I made up some bunkers that are 8' wide and 10' deep , 4' high at the back. On a concrete base, I keep two of the going with compost, the third to flip on of the other two with the tractor bucket. All the cow barn cleaning, the chicken house clean, saw dust from my sawmill and wood ashes we fill a 55 gal drum at the house end up in the compost bunkers.

Nice setup. Composting bunkerage is a viable option for a rural or small acreage property where composting materials are available in bulk. I wonder if you could use an auger PTO attachment to occasionally stir up the heap to mix the materials thoroughly and prevent the heap from becoming anaerobic, which slows down the breakdown into compost? Mechanising large quantities of material saves labour time and effort.

I think the easiest way is how I do it. I have a oversized 'light materials' bucket that holds about twice the cubic feet of a typical size tractor bucket, and flipping a pile from one side to another is a fairly quick job. I'll flip it 2-3 times before it's done.

If I run short on my own stuff to compost, nearby neighbor has a horse boarding business and will deliver a tandem dump truck load of horse barn cleanings (manure, sawdust, some hay) for $50.....which is like buying black gold cheap IMHO.

I bought the bucket (and added the tooth bar) to specifically handle things like saw dust, compost, wood chips, firewood.
