I once tried farcebook, had a very negative experience and cancelled it. I avoid all teenybopper social media like the poxridden plague they are. Farcebook, tweeter, etc. can all go to the Hot Place for all I care. Free people don't need their crap.

Found it interesting that 11 of my very short FB friends list were suspended for 30 days yesterday....... including myself. All of us were given the same reason "Violating Community Standards." Funny thing is I have not posted anything on FB in around a Month, the wide post stuff about dogs and rescues and the other friends pretty much stay clear of the politics all together. Sure seems to me a way to remove anyone that might not agree with the leftist narrative for the next Month. Also noted that all of us that I know that were suspended have followings of a few hundred to a few thousand people.

Thanks, the internet here has been screwy/very slow for the last two days.

Of course, given that I use GCI, it may only be their normal crap for service...

There are apparently some server resets going on here and there. I was choked, throttled, whatever, a couple days ago across the board, cleared up overnight. SM has so far been unaffected, and there's been no notice issued that I know of.

That sounds delicious, but our weather has been pleasant, and on the weekend...doubt we are dealing with office work and schooling remote issues. I suspect there is more afoot.... things will get weird/wild this week I suspect. ;)

Fvck Amazon (Parler used their web hosting service) for joining Google, Apple, and likely Facebook on this attack on free speech. Not renewing Prime this year and will gladely tell them why.

For Christmas I caught another 30 day FB Ban, less than two weeks after my previous had ended. At least on my main account. I rarely seem to get in trouble on my backup account, despite the crude humorous name. Never had to go to my 3rd account much. I'm one of them FB Trolls you hear about torturing the poor Liberals with memes & facts. Its one my forms of entertainment. LiberalsHateMe.

I think paranoia is a bit rampant on here [kissit]
    are things happening? absolutely

is it causing internet outages and slow downs... probably not

its too much coordination to coordinate all the internet providers that provide access to the web.

i can believe sites are slowed down but not access.

the point of control is not all of us accessing the internet... the point of control in the servers that house the data

You need only to throttle a few key gateways to slow things down,

If you run a little program called Traceroute, pick an IP address and watch what happens. Anything I do on the internet is routed through Virginia (I'm on the East Coast). Even when I travel everything goes through Virginia, usually via Atlanta. No one has to throttle individual ISPs, just the hubs. On my work networks, I can throttle whole LAN segments or just an individual IP. I can watch the amounts of traffic from an individual computer and I can set the router to deny access to any IP address I choose. It only takes a few minutes, and I'm not a high level IT guy. The truly skilled can route your traffic anywhere, slow you down so other things go faster, log your time while visiting an IP down to the millisecond, and trace you back to your individual computer in less than a second. Oh wait, you have a VPN you say. One only has to match packet counts into and out of the VPN to trace you. Any time you make a request on the internet your computers IP address is broadcast and says "Hi, I need this information sent back to me here", otherwise it wouldn't work. So, long winded story short, someone can use traffic shaping to slow down your speed (data throughput) to allow more for someone else, or shut you down altogether with a few keystrokes. If we ever go to war you can rest assured that the interwebs will go down. As usual, something that started as a service for everyone is now controlled by the government and your access to it is controlled at their pleasure.

Thanks @Tempstar - as an old IT head, I've l;earned to avoid any real deep discussion of the larger TCP/IP network with folks not in the trade - as folks eye tend to glaze over fairly quickly.

I worked as an Operations manager for GCI, a large telcom / data provider here in AK for 10 years, the last couple of years mainly tracking down the root cause(s) of large outages.. A single missed character in a command string will propagate - at the speed of light - across a network and bring it down - hard. Not only is the internet now carried on this TCP/IP backbone but so is the mass of the telephone system.

"Traffic shaping" or traffic control has also been a hallmark of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PTSN) - owing to the inherent lack of capacity. A classic example is Mother Day.
Computer programs stand ready to kill traffic and allow only 'preselected' traffic to go through the network. This is in order for the Government to be able to function in crisis areas. This can be done by assigning higher priority to certain telephone numbers and/or having a code which is entered to access priority trunk lines.

This function, by itself is inherently not evil. However, if misused, it can lock down all telephone communication into/out of broad geographic areas in a few minutes. This applies to cell phones.data and the lot.
