a Kochanski super shelter, with all the clothing the Alone people get to take with them, is easily good to 0F, and probably to -10F, without a fire, if you know to make a raised wooden bed and use dry debris as insulation. Debris can be dried out with hot rocks, under a tarp. You only need a few bushels of it, at most. If they'd size their 5 layers to let them wear all of it at once, with debris between each layer, They could handle being out in -20F all day, no problem. I wouldn't even need a sleeping bag. The lean to is 100 sq ft of the 12x12 tarp. That leaves 40 odd sq ft of reflective material Out of that, you use the big roll of duct tape to makea ponch, leggings, etc, in an hour. Stuff debris between your outermost clothing and the poncho-leggings and tie it around you. They give you a 20x20 tarp and a 10 x10 tarp that are not part of your 10 gear picks. So fold the 10x10 in half, stuff it with debris, fold it in half again and tie it around yourself and the poncho clothing and debris. Inside of a sealed shelter, that will suffice to -30F. Thats how you dont need to waste a sleeping bag, or 2 hours a day hauling/processing wood. Long before it's that cold, you'll have the 2 inches of snow that are all you need to make an igloo. Inside of a properly made igloo, you dont need a fire down to -40F. cause it raises the temps by 50F degrees, using just your trapped body-heat. It is THAT insulative, sealed, and reflective. When you'll be at risk of falling asleep, you poke a couple of 1/2" holes, on opposites sides of your igloo. In the tarp shelter, you pull a bit of tape loose on each side. During the day, you'll notice if it's getting hard to breathe, and you can open the vent holes. But normally, they should be kept sealed-off, with tape or snow.
