Cat had been chained to a car and dragged out to the dump site. Cops figured he lasted maybe, 10 miles. Word in the AO was the Family didn't like drugs in their town, so sent a message.... You were (nearly) perfectly safe anywhere on the strip and in any casino packing lot - back in the day. Now, its the wild west. LVPD (Metro) has shot dead 17+ to date, not someplace I would visit anymore....(EOM Sept - Las Vegas police shot and killed a man who charged at them with a knife on the Strip early Wednesday, authorities said.)
I should add that folks I worked with at the base would occupationally find bodies out int he desert (were were the range rats). with holes in the head... Oddest one was were the guys had a flat on the way up to Caliente (the EW range) One of the guys was walking around waiting for the others to change the tire. Saw what he thought was a stick in the ground. When he went to kick it, he realized it was a human hand. They split the cost of the abandoned jack and flat tire later. You could still see the rubber marks two weeks later where they blew out of the area.... Cops said it was one of the operator of Betties - a local cat house. Seems the guy bought a mobile home from a friend in Calif and not the local approved (money laundry) dealer. Bullet to the head then buried on the side of the road with the hand sticking up to ensure he was found. Another message.... Cop bud of mine in town said that at the Second Coming, the desert around Las Vegas would be start walking (full of the dead come back...)
