2 weeks ago, my wife and I heard the most pitiful meowing coming from under our car. It was a very young, very scared, very underweight Manx cat. I would like to be strong enough to ignore such things, but my wife and I both were cursed with this need to help scared, hungry, pitiful creatures. We put some food out by the car for it, and it was cold so we built it a little shelter out of a box and a blanket. At first, she wouldn't come out at all when we were there (let alone let us pet her). Now 2 weeks later, she's coming in the house, loves to be petted and held, and loves to play..... and she's getting some weight put on. Is anybody familiar with the breed? Our previous kitty, years ago, was a Turkish Van (died basically of old age, fat and cantankerous I have to say that so far that she has the sweetest disposition I've ever seen in a cat. Problem is, we can't keep her in the house for very long (dog don't like her, and he is our priority). I feel guilty about having an outdoor cat here in town, but I figure for now it's better than her starving/freezing to death. I would love to find a good rural home for her, but it's tough finding a good home for a cat. I worry about her safety here in town.
The Absolute Best cat I ever had.... He learned to use the toilet instead of a litter box.....Heck of a mouser... and any dogs in the neighborhood learned REAL quick not to mess with him... Very intelligent ...I'd own another one in a heartbeat! Wanna send her here? ;-)
Ditto what CRC said. Our best pet ever was a Manx we raised from a kitty. One of the biggest cats I have ever seen. He was like a small bobcat. Very fierce. He used to whip the neighborhood cats (and a few dogs) then come home and curl up in our lap. Once he brought a huge rat and left it at the doorstep. Then my daughter looked out the window and gave us the play-by-play as he ate it. (OMG, he just swallowed the tail!) He killed quite a few rabbits too. Ol' Gray was a great friend. I don't care that much for cats, but he had that bulldog mentality. He thought he could whup anything. End the end that is what got him killed. He was gone for about three days, then came home and was torn up from head to toe. It must have been the fight of the century. We thought we were going to lose him. So he spent about four days at the vet, and he told us to keep him inside for a minimum of two weeks while he healed up from all of the infection. Sure enough, about four or five days later when the door opened he shot out. We never saw him again. He just couldn't be a house cat. A couple of weeks later the neighbors found him under their pier and beam house. He was a good friend, and we still talk about him today. Ironically, we are picking up two Manx kittys this week. My wife's b-day is today and that is what she wanted. Two more just like "Ol Gray." Happy Birthday Dear.
Very Nice, EL.... I still miss KC...He was a house cat....Yeah , he went out , but always stayed in the yard..and he brought me "gifts" on a regular basis....Lizards in the bed....Mice on my pillow...even a few moles from time to time... I had him for 14 yrs...and he got an infection that he just couldn't fight...I cried for weeks over that silly cat.... When I saw him over the toilet bowl that day? I threw away the litter box and he never had one accident in the house....Very intellligent cat! I love how their front legs are shorter and the back is jacked up..and that broad chest! I swear, if I lived close enough, I'd take her in a heartbeat....I have one cat already...but Poof is declawed and Neutered and a lover, not a fighter...He gets along with the neighbors cat just fine.... One day I'll have another Manx.... I had a Maine Coon cat once too...and still prefer the Manx...
Well if you happen to be up Indiana way........ She's very friendly (likes our dog, he don't like her) Likes to roll around while you scratch her belly Loves to play with a string... or my shoelaces. Purrs very loudly. For now, her name is Pandora.
Don't do that to me....pull on my heartstrings like that...She's a beauty! Next thing I know I'll be pulling out the Credit Card and putting her on a plane.... I DO have a friend very active in rescue kitties in Michigan, with friends all over the country....They actually have truckers and other people that will pick them up and take them from one state to another.. hmmmmmmm.... let me jump on my Parrothead board... just in case... (KC was grey too......)
Ship her to me UPS/FedEx She actually looks a little like Grey did. He was quite a bit fluffier, long haired and he had a huge mane around his head like a lion. In addition to our two new kitties, we need an outside cat or two. During a B-Day party for a friend of my oldest on Sat., we killed a small copperhead right in front of the house on the sidewalk. Right where my two year old walks each morning. Check on some pet shipping rates for me to 75771. If CRC doesn't take her I am very interested.
Man, I'd hate to ship her with something like UPS.... she'd be terrified. That trucker pick-up thing CRC was talkin about doesn't sound bad though.
Man, I was just kidding about UPS that's why I had the smilie on there. Check into a pet shipping service for me.
Pandora Update: Looks like she's found herself a permanent family now.... us. We got the dog to get along with her, now she's right at home. I did check on pet shipping... UPS does do it (of course I'd never dream of just "mailing" her). She's growing on us rapidly, so we'll just try to make a good home for her here.
I figured that would happen. Manx cats have a way of making the house their own. Good for you. I have been giving my wife a hard time because her new manx has decided that I am it's pet. Whenever someone else holds it and pets it, the cat jumps off of their lap and runs to me. Climbs up, and the little fur ball wants to lay under my chin. Last night was quite the eye opener. I had two kids in my lap and her comes the cat. I had shorts on as I had just gotten off of the treadmill, so her comes the cat and it launches itself on to my legs digging in with it's claws and started climbing. Of course I had two kids on my lap so I couldn't exactly do much about it but bite my lip until the cat made it's way on to my chest and laid down next to the 07' model. Ouch!
