I had steak and lobster at the mess hall yesterday, and had a piece of birthday cake, but most of the normal events here have been cancelled or scaled back. Retiree Ball was cancelled, and at work we had individually wrapped birthday cupcakes after formation where the Commandant's message was read. Chances are good that the oldest and youngest Marine present won't change much between now and next November, and I don't have to clean frosting off my sword this year. I do miss stuff like this.
Gives me goosebumps and brings a tear to my eyes ,,,, Thanks for posting that HotDigity.. Semper Fi,,

Me and a bunch of buddies made our yearly trip to DC for the Rolling Thunder bike parade to the VNV wall. A few of us went to the Marine Corps Museum,, 1 of my buddies was former Army ,, we were always joking with each other the way we all do with our buddies from a different branch. We were sitting in the main lobby area of the museum,, and there were different quotes written on the walls around the room from different people of distinction,,, I read one quote ,,and pointed it out to him ,, it was said by an Army General I believe,, could have been a lower ranked officer,, but the guy said ,," The safest place to be in combat ,, was behind a company of Marines " ,, this may have come from the Korean war . Still not sure if he meant we were actually good in combat ,, or just made good sandbags . Either way ,,, my buddy couldn't top that. If you've never been there ,, the museum,, and are in the area of Quantico Va. ,,, its worth checking out ,,, even if I may be a little biased in my opinion.
