OK, then. This all started when I realized that I wasn't sure when the head count was supposed to end, and I had not been counted. There had been no contact from the census bureau, not by mail, person, email or any other way, they simply did not know me. So I called my state rep's office. I got the impression the question had no local answer. So I called my congress critter. The person that answered the phone had no clue and admitted it, but would get back.

Frankly, I did NOT expect a call back, but it happened. Results --
*The count ended early, Oct 15 instead of Halloween. No reason given, but evidently not subject to further discussion.
*The census folks get mailing addresses from the local Post Offices, and send stuff out to those lists.
*He (yes, it was a "he") stated that my district has about a 62% no response rate, historically.
*He said that the missing responses are adjusted to accommodate whatever it is they have to do to get numbers where they might be if everyone responded.

I get the distinct feeling that the local tax rolls and school enrollments should yield far more accurate numbers. The Constitution wants a head count, not an estimate, and does not say how to enumerate. If we can't follow the Constitution on such a simple matter, then how can we follow it for more important matters?

    Gad.

And I'm not going to be counted, I'm going to be an imaginary estimate. Oh, well ---

We did a formal census form.... I was vague and don't think I filled out very much of it... then sent it back in.

We had a personal visit from a census taker person, nice young lady who seemed to know the answers, but admitted that the numbers were not accurately tabulated as they would never get full compliance! She said that our county was hovering around 93%, but that many in the state were under 40%! When I pressed for the numbers of homeless, illegals and all that, I got a deer in the headlights look, and a quick dodge, likely not prepped for such questions, and I would assume that we the people are in the hook for about 30 to 35% non citizens getting counted as part of those estimates, which is completely unfair, and I made that fact very clear! Not that it will have any effect, but still. ...
And I have come with our county reps and have voiced those same concerns to them!

No body really wants to know. If we had an accurate count it would shake up too many apple carts. Illegal aliens, somewhere around 15 to 30 million, should they be counted and seats in the house be awarded to them, do they vote, do they get welfare, where did they come from, and the list goes on? Sweep it all under the rug and if one party wishes to make them citizens, and if they get the right to vote, we won't need to vote any more. It is easier to make up numbers to fit the wishes of those in charge of the system and wait until the elections are over. The winner will probably decide who will be counted.

One comment on possible changes in US elections if illegals are made into voting citizens.

The whole system is based on the SGT Schultz model, I know Nuzzing and are just trying to survive until it all ends.

Form I filled out just asked who we were and how many lived in house. No real attempt to find out if we should be here, etc.

I don't know how the census knew where to send mailings, but I got them here almost daily for a while. I really preferred the 2010 method when they sent out a poor soul with a clipboard to get our information. I made the poor guy step back twenty feet from the porch before I'd even step out and then answered his big question by holding up fingers. He got his count and seemed more than happy to move along.

The Supreme Court decided the end of the US Census, when asked that it be extended, in an appeal of that decision from an Appeals Court case...

When they come to ask me the answer is always how many people live in the house.
This year the only answer they got was 2.

Did mine online. Didn't seem as personally invasive as in prior decades. I did not answer all questions.

I got something like a dozen threatening letters about filing out the census after I filled the first one out and sent it off. I'm done.

I'm sure they told you that you can be fined for incomplete questionnaires? Bring it, babes, count me as cranky enough to pitch a fit.

Haha. One Census, an elderly female Census Drone showed up on my doorstep because I had answered only the "number of residents" question, no others. I told her according to the Constitution, the Census was only a count of residents, nothing more. She agreed and went on her way.

I was working out of town,, staying in a vacation cabin of a family member that I was working for out of town. I noticed 1 day a census takers card in the door. Walked inside and threw it in the trash. A few weeks later,, an old guy shows up at the door,, its raining out ,, and starts asking all kinds of questions. Name , people in the house, etc. I tell him he doesn't need my name, and I'm the only one here. Bottom line is ,, this guy was to the point of threatening me to get the info he wanted. I kinda felt bad for the old guy ,, Because I don't disrespect my elders ,, but he ended up leaving knowing he'd have been better off just saying no one was home .

I got the long census form one time, the questions were absolutely ridiculous and intrusive had nothing to do with how many people were at my address, refused to fill it out. The census is not about how many people are in this country, not even about how many are legal citizens. It's all about how the government can redistribute wealth (government funding)

We got counted at my address 4 different times by 4 different census workers. Every time I politely told them there were x number of people in the household, have a nice day.
