Yup, and they've got a turning circle like a a cruise ship.

 

I was very happy with my 1971 Campmobile. Even owned the "How to Keep your Volkswagen Alive for the Complete Idiot" book - which was needed.

Until it blew the #3 jug all over the Utah desert miles from anywhere. Wife and kiddos in car were freaked out to say the least.

Then the VW lost some of the cachet.

In Las Vegas - and an adventure laden tow later, the local VW shop popped in a rebuilt for just over $800 and I was good to go. I will grant that working on the older units was easy - if too often required....

Now, those shops are just about non-existent as VW hasn't had air cooled anything since - a long time

There was at one time a thriving market for 'rebuilds', where an old US Bug was sent to Mexico for a "rebuild" and the VIN plate was simply swapped onto a new - factory fresh, Bug. Legal? I guess. But something no longer possible,.

I like my Eurovan camper, the transmissions are problematic. I have the engine oil changed at 15K per VW guidelines and the transmission oil and filter at 30K. for the same reasons. I do wish the 'newer' (97 to 2003) had been offered with 5 speed manual units, but that never happened.

VW days are over in the US, they have no market share and finding anyplace knowledgeable enough to work on them is a pain.

My last pruchase was a Kia Soul. Almost the same footprint as a 'Bug' -- 10,000x more reliable and it has a wonderful heater !

Not a saw, it's a stacker-reclaimer used in coal mining and stockpiling. They aren't ALL that big ---
