God dammit, looks like we got a new fire popped up right in south east Salem near the state prison farms, will update when I know more! I'm utterly spent, running on pure hate, adrinilin, and cofveve! If I don't wreck this Cat getting there, I got 3/4 tank of water and foaming gel on board and a bad temper!

 

the air quality terrible here in salem. @Ura-Ki and i have been pushin thru tho as we live fairly close to eachother. i wanna say the AQI was at 700 something the last couple days. today was a 501 and now its like 480 somethin. YUCK!! COUGH!!

I read that the fires near Salem are going to merge or have merged, so any up-date from boots on the ground would be appreciated. The news said that the weather had turned favorable.

Rural Oregon is conservative. I do not want this thread to be about politics but right now rural Oregon is burning. A whole town was destroyed so hopefully the Governor has a plan because I swear someone told me that Oregon is a vote by mail state.

 

Meanwhile near Tacoma WA: On Thursday a fire started in a homeless encampment. Debris, tires and possibly a vehicle are still burning, crews worked to contain the outer brush and grass fires and then will focus on the debris pile.

Between protestors allegedly setting fires and the homeless starting fires for cooking and heating,WA is going to have their hands full.

Yes, we have been vote by mail for a long time. By "coincidence" we have been a blue state ever since it started. Prior to that the balance of power in Salem was fairly even. The last election was the first time we voted in a Republican Secretary of State in decades (runs the election process) but he unfortunately died from brain cancer. His replacement, a Republican appointed by Gov Brown, refused to allow the Republican statement in this year's voter pamphlet because it was less than thirty seconds late due to a technical glitch on the state server end. Smells worse than the fires.

Governor Brown has refused to activate the Oregon National Guard until just a few days ago to help with the fires and is only using them for security checkpoints in certain areas.

The biggest issue with how the state handled the fires was that it refused to act on them when they were small since they were in National Forest land instead of State Forest. All because Brown has been in a pissing match with the Feds and refuses cooperation at any level.

The normal procedure if the Gov declares an emergency on federal lands, gets federal monies, and deploys resources. Instead she was pissed due to pressure about the riots and decided to take her ball and go home.

It doesn't help that she has also been punishing rural Oregon since day one because they don't vote Democrat and oppose her socialist policies. She'd like to see timber operations and other economies that drive the Red areas shut down so badly, that IMO she would rather let the timber burn than be harvested.

The national news was so focused on the California fires that when I posted a few pictures to my work team (we are virtual and spread across the US) nobody had any ideas that we had fires in Oregon. Agree that the press has been very quiet on the WA fires so the best updates are local news like KOMO as well as state and county resources.

 

The MSM is saying AntiFa is not taking advantage of the fires. This Clackamas County Sheriff says otherwise. I know who I;m going to believe.

 

The Browns were burning from Alaskan Bush People fame. Okanogan County. The Bonney Lake, Graham area also. The Olympic Peninsula had one near Lake Crescent but it’s out I believe. Pray for rain.

 

Yesterday at a press conference Governor Brown was taking credit somehow for improving weather conditions. Today she is getting ready to reassign the blame for her incompetent stance on ignoring the fires when they could have been easily controlled.

Gov'ness Brownstain Could have declared these fires an emergency on Sunday, and we wouldn't have had a single death in this fucked up state, but NO, she is in a pissing match with Trump, so she will NOT do her job ( never has) to protect OryGunions, and now we have had several deaths! She should be locked up for what she has done here, but the PTB will not lift a finger! This is Typical of This Govner, she is never been proactive, instead she sits and waits until things blow way up and then she finally does something, usually the wrong thing, and then blames the Repubs for what ever it was. Smoke here is still in the dangerous zone, here at the airport, were currently hovering around 680ish, but thankfully the ash has stopped, I got piles and piles all over everything! We got the small spot fire put out east of the park near the state farm, and are back to Stayton for the day!

BTW, almost all of the OANG were sent to Afganastan instead of kept here ( Gov'ness orders) so we lost all of our heavy lift heli firefighting abilities, and what we did have down south were sent to Kali to help them, but when we caught fire, nothing came back, and we struggle with mostly small private companies to get things done! Once again, or Gov'ness mad this situation much worser by sending OUR resourses elsewhere and left this state vulnerable!

 

I am in N.E. Washington this weekend and I woke up to heavy white smoke. Fire south west of here has been going for a while. No wind out there and I don't think there is much danger here.

 

It's bad and it's arson.

Jefferson is theoretically Southern Oregon and Northern California and we've been in smoke for a week or more.
Friends south of us evacuated days ago, but at last report none have lost their places.

We evac'd two years ago and it's frightening. The unknown is the worst part.

There are over twenty deaths in Oregon so far as best I can figure.
