to bring about real, lasting change in society,” Escobar writes. “The rioters who smash windows and take items from stores, she says, are engaging in a powerful tactic that questions the justice of ‘law and order,’ and the distribution of property and wealth in an unequal society.”

Looting is wealth redistribution. Good to know."

fairly long article but worth a read to see the though process being used to support the argument...

Amid Riots Ripping The Country, NPR Promotes Book ‘In Defense Of Looting’

Vicky Osterweil’s new book, “In Defense of Looting,” “makes the case that looting isn’t a betrayal of protests for Black lives, but a vital aspect of the movement,” writes Claire Fallon in the Huffington Post. Fallon approvingly connected Osterweil’s defense of looting directly to rioting in Wisconsin last week that led to two dead and millions of dollars in damages against innocent bystanders who saw their life’s work go up in smoke.

National Public Radio also decided to feature Osterweil Thursday on its podcast “Code Switch,” for which the tag line is “Race. In your face,” under the banner “America reckons with racial injustice.” The interview openly makes the case that the existence of racial injustice in history justifies violent crime.

NPR assistant editor Natalie Escobar, a graduate of the nation’s top-rated journalism school at Northwestern University and who previously worked at The Atlantic, uses her publicly funded job and platform to interview Osterweil about his new book. It is expanded from a 2014 essay with the same name issued in the wake of the Michael Brown riots in Ferguson, Mo., which also included looting.

Osterweil says many other eyebrow-raising things, including in this section of the NPR interview:

[Looting] does a number of important things. It gets people what they need for free immediately, which means that they are capable of living and reproducing their lives without having to rely on jobs or a wage…

It also attacks the very way in which food and things are distributed. It attacks the idea of property, and it attacks the idea that in order for someone to have a roof over their head or have a meal ticket, they have to work for a boss, in order to buy things that people just like them somewhere else in the world had to make under the same conditions. It points to the way in which that’s unjust…

Importantly, I think especially when it’s in the context of a Black uprising like the one we’re living through now, it also attacks the history of whiteness and white supremacy. The very basis of property in the U.S. is derived through whiteness and through Black oppression, through the history of slavery and settler domination of the country. Looting strikes at the heart of property, of whiteness and of the police. It gets to the very root of the way those three things are interconnected. And also it provides people with an imaginative sense of freedom and pleasure and helps them imagine a world that could be…riots and looting are experienced as sort of joyous and liberatory.

Osterweil’s essay “In Defense of Looting” was also promoted this summer in GQ magazine’s “Reading List for Radicalizing Your Parents.” The GQ article summarizes the essay: “In challenging the widely accepted notion that the civil rights movement was non-violent, and that its non-violence predicated its limited successes, Vicky Osterweil flatly lays out the practical, tactical, and political benefits of rioting and looting.” Note how here GQ legitimizes violence in the name of “civil rights.”

I don't mind Escobar interviewing Osterweil, that's sorta what's expected of "journalists." Where it goes off the rails for me is when the editors allow it to be aired without an interview with someone else that is capable of countering the obvious illogic.
Welcome to NPR for those of you that are unfamiliar with the brand.

Stupidity never ceases to amaze me. And I'm seeing and hearing more stupidity in the last 6 months than I can ever remember .
So,, the stores get looted ,,then the stores cant afford to buy more goods to supply the people. Then the manufacturer cant afford to pay people to make the goods as the stores cant afford them. Then the looters start getting hungry and come after you and me for their upkeep. Then you and me apply well placed rounds to vital body parts , and stack'em like cordwood.
My question is how long do we have to stack'em before we get civil again.

hmmm.... wont be able to stack em if they take your weapons... and doesn't Biden/Harris keep saying their gonna take em...

which interestingly enough does not seem to be an issue with their pet antifa/blm types...

IIRC someone just got murdered by and antifa/blm type that used a gun...

and during the Kenosha thing at least 1 of the antifa/blm attackers was armed...

Look closely at 'riot photos'. you will observe lots of 'open carry'. That is a two-way street....

Specifically in Kenosha, a yute was pointing an AR at a police vehicle - an armored police vehicle. To my surprise, he was not shot out of hand....

Be interesting to see what develops post-election. How would folks take it if CNN lost their b'cast& SATCOM license and had internet connectivity cut?

What if the same happened to Fox or OAN?

of course looting has to be supported >>> nobody would show up otherwise - the number of azzholes out for the pure violence is limited - the actual crusaders of a cause that have no other motivation is even rarer ....

there's reports from Portland of 1,000s that was coming nitely to the Fed Courthouse to be entertained by the violence junkies - there were only a handful directly involved ....

I have an unusual trait that is hard to explain in terms that most can understand; I see lines between everything, connecting lines. They are in color and I have seen them since the 1980s. It helps me understand how and why thing work, how they are connected, and sometimes they light the pathway to understanding. Today, I see my very first Red line. It is frightening to me and I hope I just need a new tin-foil hat but my heart tells me to wait. Is it a harbinger? Or maybe just a nightmare? It is as real to me as road signs and sirens. On or about September 11, I believe we will collectively get a message from Allah on the Covid-19 Alert system installed without our permission on all our phones. It's time for a new distraction, time to ramp up the fear, time to close the jaws. Make your peace with God, whatever you conceive her to be.

Nope, your not alone! The Boog has been building, shapeless and with out substance for quite some time now, at least since Regan, prolly before! Like you, I can see tracks to all sides, and can see where they are from, and where they might be going, but I could not see that far into the distance, until now, standing atop my pile of ammo, I can see plenty far enough, and there are signs pointing to things now that we couldn't see before! I will not postulate what those signs point to, but I know the Boog is but one, the first one!
November 8th will be the kick off, the first notes of the new battle march, and we had best be ready!

    Rifleman's Creed
This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

Without me, my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will ...

My rifle and I know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit ...

My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will ...

Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!

"Republic. I like the sound of the word. It means people can live free, talk free, go or come, buy or sell, be drunk or sober, however they choose. Some words give you a feeling. Republic is one of those words that makes me tight in the throat — the same tightness a man gets when his baby takes his first step or his first baby shaves and makes his first sound as a man. Some words can give you a feeling that makes your heart warm. Republic is one of those words." John Wayne
