39 Miami police officers to form mask enforcement unit
The mask police have formed a 39-officer-strong unit in Miami to look for violators showing their dirty faces in public.

Anyone caught without a mask will be charged $50 for a first offense, then $100.

A third offense comes with a $500 fine, and arrest.

Sheriff Billy Woods is balancing the risk of infection to his officers and the spread of infection to the public, against an expressed operational requirement for his officers' directions and commands to be clearly understood, with exemptions in specific circumstances..

Woods did not say that the Covid19 epidemic was a hoax, he apparently suggested that the science on the benefits of wearing a face mask (for Covid 19 as PPE) wasn't settled.

The Trump administration's inconsistent approach to the issue of mask wearing, and Donald Trump's abysmal personal 'leadership' in respect of the the Covid19 pandemic, has given some other community 'leaders' the wriggle room to ignore the recommendations of the CDC and other public health organisations and just do their own 'thang'.

It will be interesting to see whether Sheriff Woods's policy might change if appreciable numbers of police officers, court officials, and justice administrators become ill, and die of the disease.,,that would be a tragic tipping point.

Neither populations are evenly distributed across their respective land masses. The Australian population is highly urbanised and the bulk of it is to be found in the cities and major towns, where population densities and community transmission opportunities are approximately comparable...though to be fair, we here in Australia have probably fewer holy rolling, tongues speaking, snake handling, gospel singing mega churches where Covid19 droplets can be spread more efficiently.
