This is a heck of a time to need to do work outside! But when the well breaks down you have little choice, just like any other work you adapt. Triple whammy because I was in the process of updating the mechanical room inside the house and had it totally torn up and the washer/dryer and new Unistrut stand/shelf just started.

Did finish the Cat house and it is outside so out of the way. Maybe the Unitstrut work will be complete in a couple of days and I will be mocking up parts of the water system INSIDE today. With the pump house of a design to be a Tornado shelter it is a bit more work to install all new equipment while keeping the H2O flowing. For now I do a manual recharge of the old leaky water pressure tank, as needed!

DW ask how much water do we use and do we have a way to record our use.
You never know how important water is until it's off>>

So I will rig a run time recorder and a chart of the estimate of gallons pumped after the new stuff is in.

    Heat Advisory
Issued: 5:23 AM Jul. 9, 2020 – National Weather Service
...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO
    8 PM CDT SATURDAY...

    * WHAT...Heat index values of 105-107 degrees today and up to 110
    degrees on Saturday.

    * WHERE...Portions of North and East Texas.

    * WHEN...From 1 PM Thursday to 8 PM CDT Saturday.

    * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity will increase the
risk for heat-related illnesses to occur, particularly for
those working or participating in outdoor activities.

    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
    under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

To manage my work I purchased battery run industrial work fan and battery Led lighting. A bit expensive but mobile and better than a trip to the ER for heat stroke.

I worked from 7 till 10 last night and finished another section, I have been up and out since 5:30.

I'll be hiding inside today as I have more to do tonight.

Rather than estimates from a run time recorder, you might check this out for a more exact use measurement. No power needed and as long as you are, um, ripping up the system anyway ---
domestic water flow meter - Google Search
Quite a few choices, from cheap to over the top. When you install a meter, it is good practice to install a bypass manifold, but for a single residence, I wouldn't either.

LOL I was like, what, ask I didn't ask... oh he meant dear wife lol.

Yeah they have us lit up between 102-108 for the entire 10 day forecast. We are fortunate up here on the caprock that our temps drop down to the mid 70s at night (unlike DFW when I remember it still being 100 at 2 am!) so I have a window to work outside from early dawn until about 11 am. After that, it's shut the doors and pull the thermal curtains closed.

Living on the desert we had a shop above the house and top floor of the shop I had 3 water tanks we filled regularly that fed the house.

On the property here I have 2000+ gallons in reserve on a float control .
If water is restricted or shut off I am not interrupted and my plants and animals still get water.

  7. Man, In glad I'm not in Texas. I well take the Appalachians any day, the projected high this week is 88 next Wednesday and 81 today. Then factor in my cabins location and it's 5 degrees cooler then in town!

That's like BLM, in my world and relatives in the west BLM is Bureau Of Land Management.
OTOH as a young kid and a voracious reader I kept trying to figure out who and where this tribe of Indians was, the Teachers spoke of that being the Sue.
I thought I knew of all the Plains Indians and the especially the SIOUX, (phonetically <sigh-ox>) but never the Sue!

Go ahead laugh, I did when I discovered that other races have their own way of speaking.

The name "Sioux" was adopted in English by the 1760s from French. It is abbreviated from Nadouessioux, first attested by Jean Nicolet in 1640. The name is sometimes said to be derived from an Ojibwe exonym for the Sioux meaning "little snakes" (compare nadowe "big snakes", used for the Iroquois).

It's only 82 here on the beach, but the humidity is almost 80%, so it's sticky. I work outside seven days a week, so it's just another day. I remember one day in California I saw the black flag on base and asked what that was all about. It was 101, but it felt quite comfortable to me with the low humidity. I can tell it's summer here when I can step outside and without looking, tell exactly where the sun is in the sky.

Winter here is my main time to do heavy, long term projects such as fence work, construction etc. Mild winters for the most part so summer is the time we just chill. Early mornings are usually cool with high 60s to mid 70s and low humidity unless it is drought then all bets are off because the humidity can drop to 30% and the nights can be in the mid 80s to low 90s.

Just a reverse environment and scheduled work projects.

Present temp is 92, feels like 101.

92 here and 90 + humidity and no breeze. Building a garage and help said at noon, enough is enough, working on roof and sweat pouring off and not evaporating, they are coming back at 5 AM, now if neighbors don't call cops because noise before 8 AM, we will be golden.

Texas in summer its hot......very hot. my Husbie is taking a guy trip to the beach next week and I'm trying to not be jealous of the sea breezes. But my work literally can't live without me till then end of this month so I'll have to try and catch some sea breeze another time. I'm like you HK its all about working in the morning and at night with a nice siesta in the middle if the work is outdoors.

I always do bypass valves and I'll look into this as well as a planned "ON" light so I can see if the well is running too much or short cycling due to a water logged pressure tank and the run timer.

I'll use a 1" compression fitting so I can do all of the glue ups and then use the compression fitting for the final setup so I won't have any down time.

I didn't get a pic because I'd left my phone in the house when I went to check on the eggs, but we have about a million euro collared dove that call our backyard home, and there were four lined up on the wire over the chicken run, all leaned to one side with one wing stuck out, airing their pits, lol! The hens do it too when it gets crazy hot but it was funny to see the dove trying to catch a little under wing breeze.

It's July and it's hot (and humid), get over it! If this was December I'd be concerned, but it's July... so I'm not!
