True Story.
Way back when I was asked to restore two engines for the Smithsonian. One was a straight 8 that was rare because of the fact it had a crankshaft and another mid shaft to increase the stroke or some such thing. Anyways there were only 4 known to exist so I got tapped to repair this one that had fallen from the loft during a barn fire and shattered.
ANYWAYS, the other was a single cylinder engine. They told me this was the only one of it's kind they knew of. I had to fabricate a large portion of the left side of the cast cylinder. Something had happened and that side was blown out. I made a rough cast iron repair section and then fit and braised it into position. Textured and machined it. After applying fresh cast iron paint you could not tell it was ever damaged. While tearing down the little engine I figured out why it blew. I recovered 5 jacks from inside the engine. I can only assume how they got there. They were cast iron jacks. Much heavier than the type above. I never said anything and after bead blasting and coating them with oil they reside in one of my tool boxes to this day.

I have to agree. I prefer teaching kids that they'd have more money to spend if they did more honest labor. I'm also all for snatching up litter bugs by the ear and providing them with trash bags so they can clean up their own mess.
