UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

I get lonely, so I tell them I'll be there with the money in two hours, since it's a long drive.

Then I turn on the television.

They always call back. It's nice to have someone to talk to.

I usually tell them that the car died because the generator went bad, but they should call back at four tomorrow because the garage guy said it will be fixed by then.

Four PM is when the dead zone on TV starts. The good soaps are over, the good game show reruns are all done, and it's not quite time for the news yet.

By 4:45, when they usually give it up (I talk about my cat a lot) I just have time for a beer before supper...

Should've told the lawyer that yes, the Grandson is in luck. You happen to be a Nigerian prince and if he will just send a account number you'll be happy to wire the funds...

IF I had kids, they would know the same thing. You got yourself there, figure out how to get yourself out.....and how to STAY out.

To bad you didn’t get the two phone numbers they called from... If you had, it would make a dandy Federal Case for Wire Fraud...

    Actually do have them.

My 'grandson' number is 410-645-0545. Apparently it's the dummy's OWN PHONE (cell I suspect...he had to call twice, it dropped the first time) since I called it back and it went to voice mail with the same voice that called me. The lawyer "Mr. Fisher" called from 443-648-3348. Both the 410 & 443 area codes are eastern Maryland area.

I just don't figure anyone in the federal govt would fool with an attempted scam case....even if located domestically.

Bruce....since you're far west time zone, give him a call about 10pm your time and wake him up......ahahhaaaaaa.......ask if he is out of jail yet !!

Did a bit of internet magic, curtesy of some very bright teens who experience autism (we are working on identifying internet scams as part of safety on the internet so this was a great lesson) the numbers have been spoofed they belong to real people and businesses who had their numbers hijacked so calling them only bugs the real people who own them not the scammers. The first business went so far as to put a disclaimer on their answering machine warning people about the attempted scam. So don't bug the good guys because the bad guys won't be getting your calls on these numbers anyway.

Thought it sounded like the same voice, but maybe not.
How does one spoof a number, anyway ? We get calls almost daily using our local 3 digit exchange prefix, and they are always telemarketers or scammers. I've gotten to where I simply don't answer what appear to be local numbers, because we have caller ID so I know the local folks that call us, and anyone else can simply leave a message or call back (lot of times, I just click on/off on the first ring or two rather than wait on the 5 ring to go to the machine)

Here is what google had to say on it. https://www.techwalla.com/articles/...urchase new minutes via their online... More . Scary what is possible :) Disclaimer I do not now, nor have I ever spoofed. This was more of a intellectual exercise for my advanced teen-adult group. I'm trying a curriculum to help scam proof them from things like this scam, irs scam, and the evil lonely heart scam types. BT post may or may not have more information since ma bell is a old nemesis of his.
