I knew of her famous song "We'll Meet Again" for years, but never knew her name until she passed recently at age 103. Truly a grand life she led.

Soon, very soon there will be no one from that Greatest Generation left. It is so sad. I was recently saddened and outraged to see that the statue of Winston Churchill had been sprayed and splashed with paint during protests in London. He was my favorite wartime leader. I can't help wondering what the protestors were thinking... or if they were even thinking at all!

"The dogs may bark, but the caravan moves on." Tradition has its place in the scheme of things, but traditions are not set in concrete, and traditions change....sometimes for the worse, but also sometimes for the better, else human existence becomes a state of stale stagnation. Every generation has had its haters and hatred....even in the "Greatest Generation" there were those who rejoiced in hatred. (fascists among others).

The trick is to deal with 'what is' in the present moment, rather than looking back and idealising a 'golden age', which time has passed, and may never be experienced again in precisely the same way....unless of course one actually wants to experience endless economic depression, 'The Holocaust', world wars, incurable diseases, and an unending term of FDR like Democratic presidents in an endless loop of groundhog days. If that is the ideal you are extolling in a time when you think that hatred was less rejoiced, then one may wish to consider participating in "better than life", Red Dwarf style.
