    We called them "Boilermakers"...

    ugh..

Cheap Beer...usually Miller, or Bud...with house brand Bourbon...

Now that's a recipe for a nasty hangover...

Have to try the other one...I just happen to have some Patron on hand...and it's Friday.

    Imagine that.

A boiler maker doesn't involve drowning the shot glass, it's mixed trouble rather than a bomb. The effects are different -- (Try it, you won't know ahead of time if the hootch or the beer is about to slide down your throat until it does.)

    Uh....I don't think so...

We had a glass, and dropped the shot glass down in it.......and it was , um....potent, to say the least....

(of course, I was probably 19 last time I had one....[booze] [LMAO] )

I knew if anything could draw Clyde out of the shadows it would be a discussion of beer.
I also thought that a boilermaker included dropping the shot glass and all.
That is how I made this concoction and it was really good. I thought so anyway. I love Patron tequila, and it smoothed out the mexican beer nicely. But man it is powerful. I had two of them, which was a total of 4 beers and two shots and I was feeling pretty good.

Could you be a little more descriptive about the ^ Affligem? Besides being a real butt kicker, how does it TASTE? I really can't stand American piss water domestic brew, especially after having Bavarian whilst in Italy (years ago).

So, spill the beans- - is it yummy or just another brain-blower?

If you like beer, Affligem is great. It its flavor will bring to mind a belgian type ale and the hops used gives it a banana like nose and taste. The first taste kind of took me back. It took me a bottle to get used the the flavor. This is not a hoppsy bitter beer. It is smooth and tastes nothing like piss water beer.

If you like Belgian beers, you will like Affligem. Better?

    Michael Jackson

PIcked this up a bit ago, thought a few might be interested --

    LONDON —

Michael Jackson, a leading world beer critic who praised the brews of Belgium and acknowledged he would never be as famous as "that Michael Jackson," has died. He was 65.

Jackson, known as "the beer hunter," died Thursday of a heart attack at his home in west London. His body was found by his house cleaner, Paddy Gunningham, his long-term partner, said Friday.

She said he had kept writing and traveling, despite suffering from Parkinson's disease, and that he planned to write a book about the ailment.

"He was simply the best beer writer we've ever known," said Tim Hampson, chairman of the British Guild of Beer Writers. "He told wonderful stories about beer, breweries and far away places. He told the story of beer through people, and he was humorous and erudite at the same time," Hampson told The Associated Press.

Jackson especially loved Belgian brews. His books "The Great Beers of Belgium" and "World Guide to Beer" introduced them to many export markets, including the United States.

By identifying beers by their flavors and styles, and by pairing them with particular foods and dishes, Jackson helped give birth to a renaissance of interest in beer and breweries worldwide that began in the 1970s, including the North American microbrewery movement.

His TV documentary series, "The Beer Hunter" — which popularized his nickname — was filmed around the world and shown in 15 countries.

He worked as a beer critic for more than 30 years, writing in newspapers and gastronomic magazines, holding seminars and giving speeches, appearing on U.S. talk shows and writing books about beer and whiskeys published in 18 languages.

Jackson knew he would never be as famous as Michael Jackson the rock star, and that was reflected on the beer critic's Web site. "Hello, my name is Michael Jackson. No, not that Michael Jackson, but I am on a world tour. My tour is in pursuit of exceptional beer. That's why they call me the Beer Hunter," it says.

    On another board I frequent...

Those of you who homebrew will know who I'm talking about.

I met Mr. Jackson in 1993 at the Oregon Brewers Festival after the AHA convention. We had just received samples of Bridgeport's festival beer, Pin Tail Ale and he asked me what I thought of it. I was very surprised (and pleased) when my comments ended up in the next edition of his "Pocket Guide to Beer."

A recent study found the average American walks about 900 miles a year
Another study found Americans drink, on average,
22 gallons of beer a year.
That means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon.
Kind Of Makes You Proud To Be American, DOESN'T IT?

    From NBC News

It may have seemed like an emergency at the time, but a Connecticut man is now regretting his call to 911.
The man, 35-year-old Brian Poulin of Hebron, was arrested Sunday after police said he called 911 several times and asked them to bring him beer. Hebron was charged with disorderly conduct.
Police said he called 911 numerous times and told the dispatcher he was out of beer and asked them to pick up more for him. Poulin was transported to Windham Community Memorial Hospital after officers arrested him at his home.
Police did not say what he was treated for.
He is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Rockville on Nov. 20.
