WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON? [sarc1]

I'm working a 7 day week, nothing has changed in this hillbilly town except some troublemakers must have tried to make a run on the toilet paper and the chicken. They couldn't even raid the milk properly and just bought up all the cheap stuff and left the organic milk. Apparently, beef is far too expensive as well. Anyway, looks like things are coming back in stock already. I just figured the locals value their meth more than anything else, so if it ever gets to the boiling point, I know there will be plenty of TP around after they have all worked themselves over. Nah, I've got plenty...as always.
You guys do know that this is the point at which every single doomsday prepper has become fully vindicated, right?

Steel Drums with the lids and the top holes unscrewed to loose to vent a bit work great for long term Dog Food Storage. And Vermin proof :)

World of difference between the little very small town 8 miles to the East of me and the town of 7000 30 miles to the West. And yep we ain't looking so crazy now days ;)

I think the level of SHTF depends very much where you are and what your State and local Governments are doing.

I do not consider this SHTF, yet. I am at my BOL and will not leave. I am getting things organized, tested, plowed, etc. We will see what happens.

I view it as an evolving situation of concern, and something to keep track of....not SHTF quite yet, but it is heading in that direction: So time to focus on what can be done between and now and the time when S does HTF.

I am taking the situation seriously:
On the health / medical side: taking prudent precautions and ramping up harm minimisation.protocols.
On the economic side:making some considered decisions, and hard calls, to make best use of my financial resources.

Moderately well prepared, with some areas for improvement.

I think I will be OK, have most of the bases covered reasonably well. I'm growing some things that I will no longer source from the supermarket, like salad greens, and any stuff that can't be cooked with heat, or isn't protected by a peel before cooking.

Solo, but with the option of joining with family.

Ed is probably still alive thus far. Although cannibalism may be a last resort for some desperate enough, I think I'd give Ed a pass. However, a dead Ed may be an excellent candidate for......

From a medical perspective, I think this is going to be a medium (1-2 months) to long term (3-8 Months or more) issue...until an effective vaccine and a definitive treatment for those who have contracted Covid19 is approved for mass production and use on humans, then preventive risk minimisation strategies will be the only defence against infection. Some strategies, such as social distancing have knock on effects on those sectors of the economy which are vulnerable to them...hospitality, tourism, entertainment and education, etc will all be hard hit. Some sectors of the job market will inevitably be losers, and some, winners...the recruitment agencies will generally do ok, supply and demand will just change in emphasis, unless a severe recession or a full blown depression cause the stock market to meltdown and crash...then shits will be trumps. ( I hope Donald and Melania have a better exfil plan than these two: [IMG][IMG])

A vaccine will be developed and treatments will be developed which will eventually provide protection and recovery for most. At the moment the herd has no immunity to this disease and until the herd has developed a significant immunity to this disease, the vulnerable will be considerably at risk. I enjoy at present good health for a man of my age, but as time marches on, statistically, my vulnerability increases, therefore I am very conservative when it comes to caring for my own health: others are depending on it continuing as well.

    Not SHTF yet.

Went to the grocery store yesterday to see what I could top up on. Slim pickens there. The case that is usually full of chicken was bare, no ground beef either. Maybe a couple of roasts, no bread, butter or milk, but plenty of frozen fish and fresh fruits and vegetables, except potatoes. Zero paper products of any kind. It's gotten much more sparse since the weekend when I was last there. The only thing that seems to have been restocked is bottled water.

At least there seems to be plenty of fuel and prices are dropping for that.

People were friendly and polite despite the circumstances. Not sure how much longer that's going to last, given shortages and the fact that some will begin to go stir crazy. Even more of a potential problem, schools are closed which means teenagers with nothing to do.

We have 5 confirmed cases CoVID-19 in the county, about 27 in the state. A couple of those have made full recovery. No deaths, which is kind of surprising given the large numbers of ancient ones (retirees, myself included).

Well stocked at the house for food. If TP runs low there's always soap on a washrag, it works better anyway.
Better stocked at the BOL even than at the house. Heading up that way in a day or two when the weather clears a bit. No known cases in that county but don't know if the grocery store panic has hit there. Nearest one is about 60 miles from the BOL. Wife wants to stay here in town.

My reasoning for bugging out is that if we get hit with a lockdown, I'd rather do it there. Plenty of isolation, lots to do and lots of room to do it in. It's better than sitting on the couch day after day watching the idiot box tell us about how we're all gonna perish.

Keeping our ears to the tracks and listening for signs of trouble. I think all of us here will have a far easier time getting through this than those sheeple who believed that nothing could ever go wrong, like Ed's neighbors.

Not full blown SHTF yet but I think it's coming. Work has slowed to a crawl and the GF is not working for now. I'm moderately prepared but need to fill in some holes. Keep the shotgun a 9mm at the ready JIC. Hasn't turned into the wild west yet but it would not surprise me if it did.

Things around here a what I'd call reasonable, but with a very heightened sanitation level. I was voluntold to procure multiple jars of yeast, rolled oats, an additional 20 lb of flour, 20 lb of corn meal, a case of malbec, and 2 pizzas to go. So the Lowe's food I chose, at 1630, and 30 miles off, was moderately crowded, more staff doing restock, than actual customers. Dairy wasn't wiped out, but not full either, cheap meats & chicken had a decent selection, the good stuff was fully stocked. Cleaning supplies were sparse, although a fair amount of store brand products were there, and I grabbed two 8-packs of TP just because I could, not that we need it. Cheap beer was just gone, wine fully stocked.
Overall mood was more of a "what a pain in the ass this is", than panic.
Staff was also wiping down cart and basket handles with alcohol wipes, along with a wipe dispenser at entry and exit doors.
Interesting thing I noted: while all the rubbing alcohol, and Clorox based products were non-existent, if you swing by the paint and outdoors section in a HomeCheapo/Lowes building supply, there is plenty of denatured alcohol and pool shock available.....

The pizzas were on time, fresh, and brought out to curb side, using a wireless card machine so the staff didn't handle my card. Not sure I like the wifi connected card reader from a security aspect, but I only use a $100 balance 'burner" card with those places anyways.

And personally we're good for roughly 6 month of food for people and furry people, and I think today I'll swing by the local family run 'sporting goods" store and see what their pallet ammo deal is this week. Last time I was there it was 500 rd buckets of 9mm Hornady @ $69.99.

My wife, Bug, and I have been mostly separated for the last several months. She has serious health issues, degenerative bones that have caused the stainless pins they put in her neck when she broke it in Honduras several years ago have loosened so she can't move her head much. She has severe COPD and has moved to Nashville to be with her remaining daughter and her grand-children (yes, she went there to die). She is now one of the folks near Nashville that has the Coronavirus. She got it at church. She will not survive it. I want to be with her through this but it can't happen. I am on disability but supplement my income running commercial diving projects once in a while and playing music in bars and clubs. Both have pretty much shut down. That thousand dollars makes me laugh, sort of like a free band-aid for a limb torn off by a land-mine. I never leave the house unarmed but the level of armament has substantially increased, spare mag pouch for side arm, shotgun, rifle, and sub gun behind truck seat, I carry a lot more cash now because no matter how desperate folks are, money talks.I do not answer my phone unless it clearly shows who is calling. The plus side is that I see people that two weeks ago, their biggest concern was getting their kids to soccer practice and being ass-holes to strangers on the internet, have started being a little less chiding to those of us that have been prepping.

Sorry your wife is sick. I will say a prayer for her which, unfortunately, is the only thing we can do at this point. I will also say a prayer for you for strength to deal with whatever comes.
