Being in the woods South of Seattle, our local grocery stores have been hit hard by the hoards.
It will be interesting in the coming weeks if they lock things down....
I noticed many folks, the other day at the grocery, with a bit of panic in their eyes.
Must clean the weapons I suppose. ;)

Got word that our local SAMs Club was getting 53' full trailer delivery of paper towels at 3pm today. Had to see it for myself so geared up and made the drive. They had a strict 2 per SAMs Member limit. And Store security present. It was slow to take off about 5 minutes before people realized what was being brought out on the pallet jacks. ANd then WHOOSH just like that it was all gone in another 5-7 minutes.

Yeah I am guilty I and the wife scored the first four 16 packs off the first pallet :) Then took a stroll around the store Frozen stuff at about 50% of normal, GIANT Milk Case completely empty other than busted jug on the floor under the racks. Meat Cases totally Empty. Bread racks had 2 loaves of some vegan gluten free crap. Where normally sat the honey bunns, danishes etc..... only the crap that no one would eat even if they were starving sat.

Now here is where it got weird for me. The 10 pound, 25 pound, and 50 pound bags of Rice, Sugar, Flour, and Corn Meal near full pallets. 10 Pound bags of Pancake Mix the same. #10 cans of everything full racks. Bulk Bottles of Honey fully stocked. Yep[ grabbed some cans on the chance that my farmers market will be allowed to open and I will be able to run the Chuck Wagon at it. I go through a lot of Bushes Best Baked Beans in the Chuck Wagon. Also loaded up on some mayo, honey and celery seed for making the slaw dressing and couple hundred pounds of flour and 5 pounds of yeast for the garlic knots and breads I make. Figure its stuff we will use if we are prohibited from opening the market and can't run the Wagon.

Now here is where I tie this rambling in with your post :) The Governor had just made his speech closing all restaurants and bars while we were in the store. The news was spreading fast from smart phone to smart phone. A news blurb this morning said "Governor Prickster is seriously considering closing all bars and restaurants in IL" It did not take long after he was elected to figure out if the slug is seriously considering something that translates to it is going to happen. Anyway saw the panic in folks eyes but only briefly........ It changed to a Feral Look very fast. Pairs of people were splitting up with one staying to guard their cart and the other running to the front to get a second and sometimes 3rd cart and making a mad dash back to their partner with it/them. The tension and hostility that was non existent prior to the Governor Edicts was what I would call Concern and disappointment..... raised to tension and hostile in minutes. We decided then was the time to get the Doge out of hell. Checked out loaded up the stuff, de-geared and got back to the safe zone. MRs T5R on the drive back said "OMG I have never seen peoples mental states and attitudes change that fast!" I said "Sadly I have and this is going to get real ugly before it gets better."

I don't know if Governor Prickster intent was to start a State wide instant panic that sent otherwise intelligent people over ledge, but he sure did accomplish it. If not State wide at least in the Southern 24 Counties. I have always hoped I would never see that look in peoples eyes here in the USA. Today I did. Time for us to Hunker Down with no more trips to town and keep the powder dry for at least the next 6-8 weeks. We are seriously debating jumping across the river much earlier than planned but there are major logistical problems with that and despite it being IL. we have a very isolated and secure location.

I've seen that "look" in the states once before. I was stationed in NOLA during Katrina: people would quite literally beat you to death without thinking over that last case of bottled water.

Interesting though - yesterday, that is Sun. AM @ ~0900 I ventured out to hit up a Fresh Mkt for 10lb of coffee beans, and a couple pork loins for the freezer. Fully stocked with everything, and the few customers were calm as could be. Just a normal grocery run. Same at a Lowes Foods an hour later. I even ventured into a Lowes Home improvement for some plumbing stuff and a new chain for one of the saws. Some of the cleaning stuff was gone, but case lots of the same products on the high shelves.
So it begs the question: which part of the population is weird? The ones I call "normal" that are just getting on with their business? Or the crazies we have news articles about?

the closing in the various states of the restaurants & bars are to cut the possible contamination by close contact among patrons >>> the problem comes with the restaurant staff - who is checking them daily for Virus? - some of these low paid workers will keep coming to work half dead - not only contaminate the actual food but some are being sent out to homes with deliveries ...

more BS than actual credibility there - how you decontaminate a cold subway sandwich?

They will discover that they need a catalyst... Whether it is real or they have to invent it, there in lies the key. Now you know what to look for.

Stores here are stripped bare, Wallywirld and Winco was hit especially hard, store security and local popo are really hammering the population limits, and they still only have self check out! The parking lot was a tense scene with folks obviously ready to rumble at the slightest trigger! Shit's getting real out there folks! Not hearing gunshots yet, but................

I expect things to get a lot worse!
Stopped in for a chat with the local Nat, Guard commander and he says they have orders, but didn't say what those orders were, but gave me the wink and nod!

Boy am I happy to just watch it all happen on SAT-Tv, and then go outside and breath in some fresh air... AlaskaChick is home from her Seattle trip, and we are keeping at distance for the next two weeks... Lots of hand washing, and face cleaning going on... No one in or out, so just have to deal with the weekly MailPlane on Wed. then good for another week...

That is an easy one, to answer... A BIG CHUNK of those cases in Washington came from ONE Nursing Home in Kirkland, Washington and most of the deaths as well... One carrier walked into that place to visit or work, infected a couple of residents, who then passed it on to other residents and employees, who then spread it into their community... All because no one knew the first guy never knew he had it, and most were infected before anyone knew it was even there... Discount that cluster and Washington looks pretty safe... AlaskaChick was right there in Seattle, and Burien, in Nursing Homes, and dealing with her aged Parents situation, up until Last Saturday... Being an RN, and SCRUPULOUSLY Washing her hands, after each change of location, she avoided the whole mess, and is now safely in our isolation out here in the Alaskan Bush... We both are in that susceptible Age Class, but it looks like we dodged that bullet... Praise God...
