Any Reason to Keep $100/50 Bills for Emergency? Based on Comments I Mainly Changed to Smaller Bills

I have 2 hundred dollar bills and 2 fifties left for emergency now that I converted $500 worth to 20, 10, 5,1's based on comments from this forum. Should I convert the hundred and fifty dollar bills I have left to smaller bills as well or could they prove useful in the future?

You need at the bare minimum another 50 $100 dollar bills.
Keep at least 6 weeks pay for emergencies.
25 $100 dollar bills tightly rolled fit nicely in a small prescription bottle

Nah, they are of absolutely no use. You can send me both the hundreds and fifties.

IMO big bills only draw attention..... folks may think you have more to plunder,

Of course, once SHTF, paper money will only have value for a very short time.
PM's and barter goods will carry the day, once folks stop taking your money.

just like most things - it tends to depend on it's purpose >>> I'd always have some crisp $1s & $5s in my BOB & GHB for the vending machines - if you intend to do any last minute pre-SHTF store/gas station buying those larger bills wouldn't be a problem - if you are thinking smaller buys or possibly bribes some $10s & $20s would be advisable ....
I WOULD not be listening tooo heavy on the talk of US currency going worthless instantly - sheeple are going to take some time to accept the realization and be convinced that this current SHTF the gooberment is saying a week is more likely months .>>> they'll be taking your $20s

    25 gallons of gas at 4.00 a gallon is a 100.00
2 cases of beer 1 bottle each of brandy, whiskey, and vodka is easily over a hundred
100.00 bills are commonly used and easily concealed,Small bills only advantage is if the seller is unable to make change

OK so it's a good idea then to have $300 in 100 and 50 dollar bills and $500 in smaller bills as far as how I have this spread?

Anyone else agree with 3cyl that we should have the equivalent of 6 weeks pay in cash on hand in our homes even if we have nearby access to our ATMS?

You've never been in a power/internet outage before? ATMs don't work.

Im in @3cyl camp. I only keep 4 weeks cash on hand. It just depends on where you live and your level of paranoia. I keep all mine in $20 and lower denominations as most stores wont take anything larger than a $20 these days due to counterfeit $$$

    Still beating this dead horse?

Small bills enough to get through a storm or a couple weeks without power. After that if things aren't back to normal your paper money will be looking like fire starter and toilet paper.

If it's a local disaster you'd have fewer worries if all your bills were on auto-pay.

Unless you already have your retreat fully loaded there will always be something that will rapidly increase in value as conditions make cash worthless. If you can't find anything you might ever need, maybe you should be spending the cash on training and people who will protect what you have.

    Your money, your choice.

Use stripper pay, it make you look like you are almost broke when you pay for everything in ones and fives. Unless you have something that has a really high reoccurring operating cost, like a big diesel truck no need to keep large bills like that.

In the present situation I'm mostly using plastic, because money is dirty ( as in germs and viruses), what money I do use has been disinfected with alcohol and the same goes for any change that I receive. I worked behind the counter in retail sales for 35 years and I have seen it all, people keep money in their shoes and bras, some money has blood, snot, and GOD knows what on it, and some just smells bad. I had a couple of people tell me that they had Pink-Eye. I kept a spray bottle of alcohol under the counter, just spray it good and let it dry. Once or twice I had bank tellers refuse bills that they deemed too dirty and that I had to clean up.

Give it to the uber or Lyft driver to get out.?

    I don't keep large denominations. 20s and smaller...but I don't live in a city and have what I (think) I'll need.

You brought a big smile in my face. Do you ever say anything to them like "Sir we are not accepting snot or blood today on cash today."

I agree which is why I'm asking how much you should keep on hanf.

Ed, once again, that is a legitimate question for all that want to be prepared, well asked. And as often pointed out, "it depends." You need to make up your mind how much you think you'll need.

I think some of you need to dampen down the PAW fantasy - the US dollar isn't some 3rd World POS currency based on coconut exporting >>> it's not going anywhere unless there would be a major major major SHTF connected to it - and living thru that will overshadow any monetary BS worries ....
