Prices doubled last night on Amazon. Most report NIS and a 4 week back order, As a prepper we are not in this cat fight.
After checking over our preps I did order some replacement inserts for our 3M masks and did not notice any significant price jump on those at least.
Maybe this is a good time to talk about masks. I own a bunch of N95 masks, use them for a variety of things. Rather than purchasing more disposal masks, which I find to be good for use around the property, I am thinking of spending the money to get a couple of reusable masks/respirators. Any recommendations or advice concerning them? EDIT: Just happen to look on Amazon for N99s...They're all sold out! LOL!
Never went with the N99...with the high humidity we went with P100. That extra .97% may make the difference, especially when dealing with virii in the .06-.22 micron range. Given that virus particles can make entry through the eyes, we also went with full-face masks for pandemic response.
Frankly, I am thinking full-face - I mean - why bother half-stepping, "buy once, cry once" besides then it can be used for everything. Which full-face mask did you purchase (make/model) and do you like them?
I have some full face respirators from work but rather wear my AV3000 with cartridge filter adapter instead because I have prescription inserts in it. With the adapter and the right 742 style filters the AV3000 works great for me and I know it is fit correctly because I fit test every year with it! I still need to get one of the adapters for the 40mm nato filters.
We have three different levels of suits here. While I'm not really worried at this point, I am blowing the dust off some cases in the shed and paying close attention to the reports. However, I am temped to join Facebook just long enough to see how long it would take and just how much I could get for a case of Tyvek suits
lordy .. .. some sellers are asking for $538 plus plus for a Scott AV-3000(TM) Sureseal(TM) without filters??
Reminds of of "Tunnel in The Sky" < The story describes a group of students sent on a survival test to an uninhabited planet, who soon realise they are stranded there>.Guy with the biggest most expensive gear is offed first.
Pro Tip, Harbor Freight Tools! Just sayin! I have a case of their "Body Shop" masks and loads of spare cartridges, good for most of the bugs and other stuff, and they integrate with the sealed goggles and or face shields!
You may be right, Ura-Ki...but neither I nor my wife are willing to potentially bet our lives on cheap knock-off gear. YMMV!
They are made by 3M, so there is that, check their stats and ratings. Edit; They are no longer selling the 3M brand, but a cheaper knock off! That Sukz, I love the 3M ones, I use them for painting and other needs all the time, guess I better rat hole a bunch!
I've been doing some reading and apparently the surgical type disposables really don't protect one that well. They are really made to keep you from breathing on folks and your still rather acceptable to breathing in toxics, viruses, etc. So, I am searching for a serious full-face mask that's comfortable and accepts different filters. I wish now I would have tried to bring back my old military mask since it had fell off the books but... @mysterymet "...rather wear my AV3000..." What make (manufacture) do you have Honeywell, MSR, 3M, etc.?
supply and demand. Just like pre-ban during the ban. High caps. .22lr Make hay while the sun shines and people panic buy.
