Donald Trump became the third sitting president in U.S. history to be impeached, as the House of Representatives approved on Wednesday the first of two charges against him: that he abused the power of his office by pressuring Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 election on his behalf.

The House approved the first article of impeachment, charging the president with abuse of power, by a vote of 230 to 197 at 8:34 p.m. after a daylong debate. Of the 233 Democrats, 228 voted in favor, along with the House’s one Independent. Two Democrats opposed the measure. No Republicans voted in favor.

Trump came to the stage for a rally in Battle Creek, Mich., just as the vote was being called and told the crowd, “It doesn’t really feel like we’re being impeached. The country is doing better than ever before. We did nothing wrong. And we have tremendous support in the Republican Party.”

Eight hours earlier, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi laid out the Democratic case: “The president violated the Constitution. It is a matter of fact that the president is an ongoing threat to our national security and the integrity of our elections: the basis of our democracy.”

Pelosi said that Trump “used the power of his public office to obtain an improper personal, political benefit at the expense of America's national security.”

The only other two presidents to be impeached in American history are Andrew Johnson, in 1868, and Bill Clinton, in 1998. Both survived their Senate trials and served out their terms. The House began impeachment proceedings against Richard Nixon in 1973, but Nixon resigned before he was impeached.

Trump held a rally in Battle Creek, Mich., and was scheduled to speak around the same time that the House held its final vote on impeachment.

He was awaited by supporters — most of whom stood in line for hours in temperatures that did not rise above the teens — inside the 9,800-seat Kellogg Arena.

During the day, Trump railed against the impeachment on Twitter in the same vein as the six-page, angry letter he sent to Pelosi on Tuesday. In one early morning tweet, he wrote, “I DID NOTHING WRONG!” In a midday tweet, he called his impeachment “AN ASSAULT ON AMERICA, AND AN ASSAULT ON THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!!”

 

So, the whackos did it... I would be lying if I did not admit this puts a chill up my back, sort of unnerves me. All I can say is the damn Senate better do right, honorable and just thing...and, no, I don't trust them.

 

Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Trump cannot be separated from his base by the likes of Pelosi, Schiff and Humpty Dumpty.

IMO Trump has been playing the Democrats like a pro. He intentionally drives them bat shit crazy. It's the same tactic used in a fight to make your opponent mad so he/she makes a mistake that leads to your win. He finally got them mad enough to impeach him over... nothing consisting of facts, just circular references about people making assumptions. So, they got pissed and threw their hardest, most predictable punch, and devastated ... a bunch of air.

Their hail Mary flopped when Trump refused to testify. Why would he? They were going to convict no matter what and it made no sense to allow them to fish and hope to catch him in a technicality.

Trump intentionally comes across like a rude, crude, bumbling idiot, but somehow he almost always wins. Don't they even pay attention?

Now they are screwed and their is no win. If they send it to the Senate, then everybody Trump wants to tear down has to testify as witnesses.. under oath. If they don't send it, then they los credibility. Their only choice is lose or lose BIG. We are seeing either the destruction of the Democrat party or at a minimum the destruction f the "old guard". The pending backlash will give Tump the win in 2020 as well as the 's controlling the House and Senate.

The MSM faces devastation as well. Average folks are waking up and they have zero credibility. For the most part Joe Citizon couldn't care less, but when you do get hisher attention you better be careful.

 

I believe that Impeachment was invented to reduce duels at sunrise and assassinations.

Personally, I think they should bring all that back, and do it right on the white house lawn in full view of the MSM and the Public!

Seeing almost any of our elected officials doing anything on their own, especially of a physical nature, would be a total hoot.

 

Thunderdome for the party nominee selection. Ditto for the election. Granted .. we may get putin.

 

Someone far wiser than I once said, "Be careful what you wish for... " or "he that sows the wind, reaps the whirlwind" The way the Dems are playing fast and loose with God just might turn out to be a grave tactical error.

 

Actually, we could do a lot worser, Putin would be a Sunday Tea Party compared to many of those Dems currently runnin! I'd take my chances with Putin, maybe take him fishin and huntin and let him borrow a Pick Up Truck, or maybe even a Recreational Vehicle!

 

Putin at least works to make his country more powerful. Democrats (and most republicans) only work to line their pockets. If our country is damaged in doin so they will not shed a tear nor lose any sleep.

 

Democrats want to change our system to one with the parliamentary system where the checks and balances disappear and if the head of the government loses a vote of confidence, new elections must be held. That gives the politicians total control of the government and as seen in France, Italy and many other countries, leads to long periods when no one party is in charge and no decisive vote by the people selects a dominant leader and a care taker government and the bloated bureaucrats run the country as they see fit. Hard to see how asking a friendly nation to work with your legal system to investigate a crime that the individual who committed it has bragged about doing it in public and on tape should be grounds for impeachment. The way the impeachment has been handled so far would make Joe Stalin very happy and very proud of this generation of his followers. I for one had my doubts about Trump and voted for him as an action against Hitlary. I am going to vote for him in 2020 even if he is in jail and it has to be a write in vote as he is not on the ballot. It is no longer about Trump, the anti gun, anti freedom, and the attempt to totally control us actions taken by the political system has made every political comment made in our blog suitable for the Inferno section. I never thought I would see the day that the people I work with would totally believe that the President should be replaced as their dear leader lost and it was all due to the horrible Russians. If you try to talk to them, you will find that you MAGA hat should come with a tin foil lining and nothing you say will ever reach thru their mental conditioning.

Wouldn't vote for the man, but Putin is always on the stage, one of our greatest dangers, and the leader of a country with a gross domestic product, mostly energy exports, the size of Italy. If that doesn't indicate that he is an effective "Russian" leader and isn't doing all he can for his country, I don't know what would. Instead our media selects as the person of the year a disturbed young climate activist who by all accounts is at least a truant from school, and whose words are taken as a pronouncement from God and must not be questioned.

 

One interesting comment on Senate trial made by one of the leftist in the media was that the Senate sits as jurors and thus they do not have the rights as individuals to question nor interact with the members of the House presenting their case. Going to be a very interesting time in the back room as all this is hashed out before the public performance begins. The Supreme Court ruled many years ago that the whole thing is politics and that they refuse to get involved. The Dugello has been played, now the battle begins and as Mr Dillon puts it there may well be no winners left when the final results are in. Both sides are talking to their base, neither side is listening, and never let small things like facts and truth interfere with the end results.
