Opinion Question. Assuming you had immediate access and you had to immediately escape the area where you are when a TEOTWAWKI situation just struck like BioAttack, Nuke, Pandemic, etc. which of these transportation sources would you prefer assuming you had immediate access to them: Boat, Plane, Walking, Car, Motorcycle,Bicycle,RV, other? Staying home is not an option.

Myself I'd choose boat. This is assuming as I said in the premise, I would have immediate access to it.

Here we go, again. Obviously, it depends. Season? Terrain? Too many variables.

Best to not have to go ANYWHERE, in the first place...

Depends! Weather/time of year/how far I needed to boogy, and can I even get to "It" or can I get very far with it!
Ideally, I could stay home where I am and have all I need to hole up ( unless it's a NBC event) and then all bets are off!

I'm gonna Fly if I can, get to my Boat, and be off to sunny shores past far horizons!

If I was in Arizona, I'd want a tractor-trailer rig.

An Australian-style road train, in fact.

I wouldn't go anywhere, at first, so much as just go away from everywhere.

I'd roll out into the desert until the primary die-off was pretty much done. Then I'd make the rounds of the surviving small towns and find a place to settle--or set up a regular route as a peddler, whichever looked best.

Along with all the usual stuff, I'd have my road train would include a capacious ice maker and a complete ice cream stand--with a lot of ingredients in reserve.

The trailers would have large solar arrays to power the ice and ice cream production.

After the SHTF fan, I'd barter ice and ice cream, get rich, and be famous.

    Rocky Road, anyone?

a properly equipped supersonic jet is fast enuff to be able to outfly an NBC or EMP event depending on the circumstances.

a properly equipped subsonic jet also has a chance if ya can get to it in time.

remember aircraft can maneuver in 3 dimensions.

surplus supersonic and subsonic jets are available on the civilian market if ya have enuff FRNs.

most boats are way too slow and can only move in 2 dimensions unless ya get a sub.

I am with grit: There are far too many variables to be fully committed to a particular course of action and a mode of transport BEFORE the event occurs. At best, one can game possible alternatives that are feasibly available (each with their relative advantages and disadvantages), and make prudent preparations with the resources that are available at the time for probable contingencies. I'd prefer to fly by hot air balloon (and some here might suggest that I would be fully capable of providing an almost unlimited capacity for remaining aloft at high altitude for some considerable time)...but that method may not be very feasible.

    Some planning considerations....

The nature of the survival threat,
The number of people to be transported with you,
Present location....and alternative routes to target location,
    Terrain,
    Meteorological factors,
    Seasonal factors,
Time and space (i.e. the importance of arriving at a given destination within a given time window),
    Transportation modes available,
Potential choke points along the route,
Obstacles (water (rivers/lakes/marshes/flooding), landslides, debris, deliberate demolitions,
Fuel availability and estimated consumption, and capacity to effect running repairs along the selected route,
Locations of populated areas along the line of drift, which may be hostile to, or may prevent transit of refugees through their area,
Ability to avoid or defeat the threat of confiscation of one's means of transport by authorities or by banditry / piracy.

    etc, etc etc.

Bruce also has a point...staying in place, can be a viable survival strategy (at least for the short term) particularly in the event of some threats such as nuclear attack. It may be best to stay in one's fallout shelter at least until the radiation at one's BIL, falls to safe levels....then assess the wisdom of staying or going.

Good idea which until your post didn't enter my head I am ashamed to say. So instead of trying to do everything at once, you'd wait till things cooled down then try to settle into a small settlement. Only question I have would be, would the small settlement take latecomers, in?

Great idea! I'll have to add another couple of trailers. Hmmm. Better make it three.

Heh! They'd take in anybody if they had cold ice cream n' hot wimmens!

Throw a few more things in the enclosed trailer in the garage which is already stocked, hitch to the Bronco and head to our transmitter site an hour away at the first hint of trouble. We have rehearsed and can be gone in 10 minutes.
