June 26, 2019 at 2:09 PM EDT - Updated June 26 at 2:13 PM FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania woman used a shovel to kill a cobra she saw slithering on the patio of her apartment. Kathy Kehoe said the squawking of some blue jays outside her unit caught her attention Monday. When she looked outside, she saw a 4 to 5-foot-long serpent. The 73-year-old Kehoe says she noticed the lateral spot commonly found on cobras, grabbed a shovel and nudged its tail. When it rose and spread its hood, she realized it was a cobra. That's when she decided to kill it. Kathy Kehoe, who lives near Philadelphia, killed a cobra with a shovel that was slithering through her garden. (Source: WPVI/CNN) "I knew what I was doing was dangerous, I'm not a fool," she said in a phone interview on Tuesday. "I just acted. I thought of the kids and other people in this community and I said 'I can't let this thing get away.'" Her apartment complex in Fairless Hills, about 30 miles northeast of Philadelphia, is the same one where officials removed 20 venomous snakes from another apartment in March. Officials aren't sure if the cobra had escaped from that unit. Wildlife officials say people who spot snakes should call police and let experts handle the situation. If you see a venomous snake, leave it be and call the authorities. Copyright 2019 Associated Press. All rights reserved. there is a video on site if ya care to watch it... Great-grandma uses shovel to kill cobra slithering on her patio
Nothing like a cobra rising up in front of you in the dark to sober you right up! My experience in the RP.
There's a reason why great grandma has to do that shit instead of fertile and virile young people. Same as a mule powered stump puller. Only the old folks walked the mule around in case the cable broke. (Old family story about house moving in the 1920s)
My grandma used to beat snakes with her broom. Grandma was little but she was Queen of Death with her kitchen broom.
Mine too,Could screech like an owl,Saw her once run off rabbit/dog hunters trespassing on her land. They were armed with shotguns,She had a broom,She won!
You ought to see what the greatgrandmother I’m married to can do with a broom. With the broom and her eyes she can cripple or kill anything, ask me. Married 55 yrs,so far. She need not find my pass word or I’m dead.
I keep two snake shovels in the back yard, of course it was this year I walked out and found one taking in the sun on my FRONT steps....hard to miss an entire step when you are already committed to the decent !!! Bloody thing hid out in a thick bush next to the steps, I grabbed a spade, chair and water bottle and figured where it would next come out for sun....and waited....only took about 15mins.
